I had a 1977 Corolla. "Canary" yellow. The AM radio. The fan. Super cool, particularly when it was cold. I had the four door version. "5 seats". You could put up to two people on the back seat. I could fit in the driver's seat. To be fair, I was fitter back then. Those were the days, my friend.

Good maintenance is the key. Plus, those engines have heavy-duty components that would fail in our cars. Fix those weaknesses, and you have stellar MTBF rates.

The riviera was controversial car with its "boat tail" design. It indeed was a solid smooth riding car.Interesting that in this commercial the back of the riviera is not shown.
@OsbornTramainКүн бұрын
it's the way the video is cropped, in the full version,you can see the tail of the car. Not really controversial at all in my mind, distinctive, yes...they sold 35,000 of them in 1973, so that's a pretty big number for a sports luxury car with only one body style.

Sadly that logic has basically driven Buick out of business. Olds and Pontiac are gone. You could say cutlass, regal, monte carlo, grand prix are same- same. The looks for me divided those like brands.
@OsbornTramain3 күн бұрын
You couldn't be more wrong. Buick is one of the largest brands of cars in the world. Stop being USA centric in your thinking, it's a world economy. over a 700 thousand Buicks were sold in 2023

@OsbornTramain i guess the foreign sales in China would be in that market. I live in Maryland and I see more cadillac vehicles and GMC/Chevy products more. I was narrow on my view. It is hard for me to look as if it is 50 years ago in the automotive industry.

@OsbornTramain again, it could be the area I live in. I commute to DC and so I see many kinds of vehicles. Some more than others. I do believe regional areas may favor certain vehicles over other areas. Example. Down in Houston you'll see a boat load of dodge 2500-4500 welding rigs. Go up into the panhandle and you'll see ford and chevy trucks working ranges on ranches. You have good stats on this topic. Thanks always enjoy your vlogs.

A Maverick was $1995 A Pinto was $1900 A Gremlin was $1900 The 1969 Ford Falcon was $2300 so proces in the 60s had crept up. The Toyota undercut them by just $100 to $200...but enough to catch attention. However early Toyotas couldn't be ordered with factory air....and until the 70s couldn't be ordered with automatics. The AC offered was dealer installedfeom a box unit kit mounted under the dash. The base corolla had rubber floors instead of carpeting. Very hard base seats. However so did the 1970 base Maverick...but you could get in with AC, power steering and AT. Toyota was pretty much a this is it...take it or leave it. However they had a great little motor and good interior size compared to the small exterior.
@OsbornTramain3 күн бұрын
I believe the Gremlins price was 1879 and the AMC Hornet was 1940, AMC always wanted to be a couple dollars less expensive than the competition.
@STho2053 күн бұрын
@OsbornTramain $1879 vs $1900...quite a difference there. All of these models were about 2000 out the door once all the dealer theater was over. That was the target.

You have to remember too, Mitch Miller had a popular TV show, "Sing a Long with Mitch" which highlighted this type of music every week on TV for years..........I can personally tell you at any family event I attended at my Grandparents or Aunts house included, either, my Mom, Aunt or Grandmother playing the piano while the whole family sang these old songs.......this is before the Beatles and the advent of big time Rock and Roll. This type of music was still popular.
