Chris, just double checking that you were aware that this Dalek had the two "high" rows of globes at the back...this was evident in four of the movie Daleks & two of the original TV Daleks (All Shawcraft props of course)
@TheChrisBalcombe2 жыл бұрын
Hi Craig, and thanks for your comment. Yes, in fact all the Daleks built by Shawcraft which appear in the two Peter Cushing Dr Who movies have that strange hemisphere misalignment. Shawcraft also built one for the BBC, (used first in 'The Chase' by Terry Nation) using the same 'movie Dalek' moulds, and this became known as Dalek 7, appearing in nearly every BBCTV Dalek story during the Classic series.

I still remember the win a Dalek competition on the back of the Sugar Puffs box; I was nine-years old at the time and I really did want a life size Dalek (I never did win one). At sixty years of age now I've changed my mind of having a Dalek and I would certainly not pay £32,000 for a bit of fiberglass.
@TheChrisBalcombe7 жыл бұрын
One of the prize Daleks ended up being burnt on a bonfire! One exists in much better condition than this one, owned by a private collector. But yes, that's a heck of a lot of money. And the buyer, I'm convinced, would have gone much higher if I'd carried on bidding!
@borusa327 жыл бұрын
Before that though I recall a small ad in a newspaper my Mum showed me when I was laid up in bed -something like get a genuine Dalek for the ,at the time, impossibly huge price of ten quid.I think this was in 1965 and I am pretty sure if you shelled out the tenner you would have been sent one of those fabric costumes with a moulded plastic head and not the real dalek you were led to expect. Never mind , I had a clockwork one instead that Christmas.
@redblade436 жыл бұрын
I remember that ad as well, it was the first Dalek competition I entered and to win a Dalek, you had to think of a good name for one. I did not win a life-size Dalek, but I did win a runner up prize; It was a cut-out Dalek that first needed to be glued to a sheet of cardboard and made up (it stood 10/12 inches high I think).

Please forgive me. I've described Hilary Minster as a lady, when of course he was a male actor! The commentary took so long to get done, that I cannot change it. Hilary was in both Planet Of The Daleks and Genesis Of The Daleks, but is probably best remembered for playing General Von Klinkerhoffen in the hit BBC comedy series 'Allo 'Allo. He passed away back in 1999, after appearing in a string of well-known TV series including (for sci-fi fans) ITV's The Tomorrow People and Timeslip.

My parents bought me an A4-size hardback Dr Who book at Christmas 1973 with lots of info about the history and making of the programme and related features including interviews and features on the main actors and figures - and right at the end a chapter on building your own life-size Dalek. All with plenty of pictures. It included a section chronicling every story in the then 10 years the programme had been running,in chronolgical order: when shown,the number of episodes,a synopsis of the story,probably who appeared in it,etc. It had vanished by the 80s,if not before,but I do wish I still had it now.

The Daleks in the film didn't have a sink plunger arm, they had a sort of claw.
@TheChrisBalcombe7 жыл бұрын
Hi Derek. You're quite right. The movie Daleks used a 'metal' claw, but not all of them. Some were fitted with the standard rubber plunger.
