1966 Ford Fairlane GT-X A Go Show Car - Muscle Car Of The Week Episode #356
This awesome 1966 Ford Fairlane show car called the GT-X A Go was featured at the 2019 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals show in Chicago, Il. Designed and painted by Gene Winfield, the Fairlane GT-X toured the country at auto shows as the first Fiarlane with a big block engine. This 1 of 1 car was customized with special trim, as well as a host of performance goodies like Hurst Mags, Ansen shifter, Hurst shocks, M/T valve covers, and much more, including a 427 high riser V8! We dig the sparkle-tone interior. It was a huge hit at the 1966 Detroit Auto Show, and a huge hit again at the 2019 MCACN show!

How cool is that? To hang out with Gene and work on your car with a legend and a master!!! To bad you can't really drive it though, man I'd be hard pressed not to want to put that 427 through its paces and pedal to the floor! Cool car and story too!!!

That 427 side oiler makes respectable power by todays standards. Ford has made some incredible engines, and cars to carry them.

Awesome, But I wonder if it was wise to tell a great man how to do his job, That he has been doing all his life. He is a legend and the way you said it, He was doing you a favor. I would have told you to take your car and get out of my shop.

Awesome car! I'm a big fan of the 67 Fairlane GTA with the 390 being that my dad purchased a new one in 1967. The car would do a burnout like no other car. It didn't take long for my dad to take the keys away having to replace rear tires and a serious speeding ticket thrown in. Not many 16 year old kids have the opportunity to drive a 300+ horsepower factory hotrod. Maybe that's a good thing. Thanks for sharing this special GTA.

Have always enjoyed all your episodes, but there's nothing better that watching the owner telling about their car. The enthusiasm in their voice and the excitement telling the car's story is the best.

People can debate where 427 Ford's rank in terms of heavy hitting performance muscle but there is no denying that they are a great sounding high performance race engine and a sweet package to aspire to if you were a stock or super stock racer. They may not have been any undisputed king but they were as potent of a car that you could order from Ford in the mid 60's.

Met Gene a couple times over the last 20+ years. He is has a great attention to detail and great abilities for making it stand out for sure. I am a Fairlane fanatic, own my 1st car a 67 since 1995 bought for $500 and I am about $30k into it. I have replaced almost every bolt myself. My dad has is first car a 66 500XL sitting in the garage since 1979.q

I remember my parents bought a 65 Ford fairlane station wagon it was just beautiful light blue metallic and white and light blue interior I especially played attention to the squareftont bumper and lights and grill. Unfortunately my dad took it back and bought an ugly red 67 chevy station wagon I was angry and terribly upset but we were poor and I was too young... and Dad had cheap taste of things...

Once knew a guy who had a very nice R code1968 428 Cobra jet Fairlane notch back. He worked at a Ford dealership pulling wrenches. Very nice car. In his garage at home he had an original ad for the car. The 428 version was less expensive than the six cylinder model. Guess that's what it took to get 500 out there.

My opinion, beautiful car. Love to see a man so passionate and a woman so disinterested. How appropriate. Men, don’t them crush your dreams
@richardmalone4721

Marvin Lohman: No doubt we have all been there, but with the wisdom of age, I look at this beautiful woman as the inspiration that drives the passion in this man. Whatever profession this man chose, she’s a large part of any success. Wise women realize her husbands chosen a Automobile as his “other woman”, not in the flesh and also not sitting at a Bar each night. You know that you’ve found the right companion when you want to be at home each night to see that the family’s needs are met. A wise wife of an enthusiastic Car Guy makes a choice to consider all the above and I’m guessing she’s made the right choice and this guys the luckiest man alive as a result. Ditto!
