Yup, 1966 model year with the VIN (from the HOC website) for the win: 1 for Chevrolet, 64 for Impala V8, 45 for four door nine passenger wagon, 6 for 1966 model year, D for Doraville, GA assembly and the rest is the production sequence. The Doraville, GA plant operated from 1947 to 2008 and was one of two plants in GA over the years. The other was Atlanta, GA assembly (aka Lakewood) which closed in 1990. Parts of the Doraville, GA assembly plant land is now used as a transit/train/rail hub for various uses. Doraville is also the home of Studio One where both the Atlanta Rhythm Section and Lynyrd Skynyrd recorded albums. We got the tag (from the HOC website), we can brag: 11A for the first week of November 1965 production, 66 for 1966 model year, 16449 for Chevrolet (1) Impala (64) four door nine passenger wagon (45), BA for Atlanta, GA (Doraville) assembly, 870 for Fawn interior trim, and V-V for Cameo Beige lower and upper exterior paint. Might be "QA" upper control arms (I'd rather the OEM originals). REbuild not build. GM already built it, the hobbyist rebuilt it.....

Great car! My folks bought a new 1965 4 door Impala when I was 8 years old. I remember my Dad always ran "Ethal" gasoline in it(loved the smell of that gas and the red color it had). It was a 283 with dual exhaust and a 4 barrel carb. They were pretty proud of it. Me too.

I was raised in station wagons. I was one of those kids that loved facing the traffic way back in the 3rd row He had a 66 Impala Wagon just like this one, but not as good looking. Also had a Biscayne Wagon, a 76 Implala Wagon with the clamshell tailgate. A Mercury Wagon and a Ford LTD Wagon with the ugly wood sticker on the sides. God I love the old wagons. Thanks Steve.

Great video. Thanks, Steve. Those of a certain age would probably have been embarrassed to be dropped off at school in a station wagon. Fifty years later, many of those same guys would just love to take this to cars and coffee. It would probably get more eyeballs and comments than the 911 parked next to it. 😬

Tailgate came with a torsion rod which made opening and closing the rear much easier. Apparently, that has snapped on this car, as it did on my 1965 Impala 9-passenger wagon when it got to be about 20 years old. Makes opening, and especially closing, the tailgate into a workout!

So glad you’re back, good job. My family had a 1969 Kingswood Estate, minus the 3rd row seat. The tailgate opened two ways with a power window. It had a truck 396 truck engine with a TH 400, was ordered and used for towing. The thing was a bullit proof tank and got horrible gas mileage, had it for over 20 years.

My Dad's first new car was a 65 Chevy Belair wagon with the 3rd row seat. We often had our family of 6 plus my grandparents and my aunt, so that was 9 people in the car. Dad didn't spring for air conditioning, and it had the 283 small block. We spent summers with all the windows rolled down. 😂 He paid $2800 for it at a dealership in Langhorn, PA. You could fold the seats down and slide a 4'x8' sheet of plywood into the car and close the tailgate.

Sweet ride right there. My neighbor,a Pearl Harbor veteran, had a 65. Back in 1973 he took me and my brother along with his kids across the Bay Bridge to Treasure Island during fleet week. I was 10 years old and there were 10 people in that wagon! Unfortunately a drunk driver totaled it while it was parked in front of their house about a year later. Damn shame.

As much as I always enjoyed your junkyard features, it’s nice to see 40-60 year old machines in some semblance of mint or at least driving condition. And you don’t have to swing the weed whack er to get to them. Incidentally, anyone else take not of the room in the back of that thing that you don’t get in pretty much any SUV offering today.
