Big SIGH! here. I owned a 1966 Sunbeam Alpine, this same British Racing green (?) color, from 1968 until the Fall of 1971. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven when my father handed me the keys the day I showed it to him on the car lot. This car was so lovely to drive. 1725cc engine was a dream, just fast enough to win a race or two down a four lane late at night and was the perfect sports car for a young woman looking for a little excitement in her life. Mine had dual carburetors on it and that engine put a lovely deep light purr through to the exhaust. My thrill of every day was starting it, rolling down the windows, lowering the top when the weather allowed and just driving, it was such fun. I miss it still and dream of owning one again.

I bet you didn't know the turn signal and bright light indicators have daylight and night time adjustments, they both turn or flip up and down. Since it does not have the original steering column, you probably don't know the steering wheel is telescopic. Also the car has duel gas tanks making it more balanced. Good up grade choice on the single carburetor. Those dual carburetors were notorious for fuel lock up when it got hot and would not crank because the fuel peculated. I always made sure to park mine on a hill during the summer months, to roll start it. The wire wheel cars would spin if the spinners were not really tight, and it would out torque and break the rear ends. Also over torquing would vibrate the harmonic balance loose. The engine ran hot even with a new radiator, so I kept the hood only closed o the safety latch to let the heat out. And they were available with a removable hard top. Not too many cars had that feature. And for all the quirks, it is the car I miss owning the most. They handled great!!!!!! And the sad part, all the pictures are taken toooooo close from the front shots. One only sees the front grill over the bumper. But if you look from further away and include the lower grill scoops, it looks a little like a 1956 Corvette. Over all, one of the most unique two seater sports cars of the 1960's. And I choose this car over a MGs, Fiats, Triumphs, Datsun 2000, VW Karmann. The biggest regret, I had the possibility of buying a AC Bristol in 1975, but I didn't know what it was, and I didn't look that close at it, and bought a Mustang instead. Ouch.

Thanks for your info, it sounds really great! My friend had one in 1968, I we used to work together at a golf course back then. I'm not sure what year his car was, maybe and earlier one, because the fins were more on an angle. I think he had that problem too with his car, or maybe the starter. Many times he had to push start the car, let out the cluch and then it would start. Anyway, it was a fun car and years ago I had a 67'Karmann Ghia convertible. It was Castilian yellow with a black top. Another great car from years ago was the Opel Kadett GT. It looked like a mini Corvette. I'm interested in getting the Sunbeam Alpine, but in a very good condition. Is this car sold now? I imagine it is. Any ideas you can suggest for me? I would appreciate it very much!

Back in the day, I owned a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger and it was one going machine with a 4-speed trans and 271 hp 289 Ford V8 engine. It also was BRG in color with a tan interior and both hard and soft tops. Gearing was for road racing, so not as quick off the line as it would have been with a 3.73 or 3.91 rear gears. Only had it for a couple of years and then a growing family required more vehicle space. But it was sweet at the time. 😀

I have modified mine a bit…Dana LSD 3:73 differential with a Mustang T5 overdrive drops the revs on the highway. 11 inch disc brakes in the rear and 11-1/2 up front, my Covid project was building a full 2/14 “ dual exhaust wth balance pipe from the headers back. Also added dual circuit power brakes and a much bigger triple pass cross flow radiator… it’s becoming a restomod 🥸

Actually this car mate 15 to 20 per cent more horsepower than the stock 97 due to the Weber carburetor and the manifold system
