EXCELLENT idea, I've used 4x4 WOOD BLOCK on same type jack, what HELPED greatly is I used a hole saw same size as the disc on jack to cut OUT a plug from the wood, thus allowing the jack disc to INSERT the wood block, this makes for a more stable block to jack, and the block has less chance to fall off while rolling jack in place.

This is what I love about the old bugs you can in an evening take the entire chassis of the frame without alot of complication. you can't hardly tell what your looking at under the hood nowadays . It is crazy how toyota did my dad and his tundra it had an optional extra skidplate that protected the oil filter and other important parts but you needed a special tool to remove it so he couldn't even change the oil he had to pay toyota to fix at the dealership witch is an hour and a half away

I replaced the stock shifter on my '68 Bug with a Gene Berg unit. Only 2 bolts and about 5 minutes. Of course this was about 40 years ago and my memory could be fuzzy. 7 minutes tops. By the way, the Berg shifter was awesome. T grip handle and thumb button for reverse lockout. 2 or 3 inch throw between gears too.

This may be the best video ever made. Unfortunately the music was so bad I had to shut the video off. I'll find my information somewhere else....funk soul brother!

Hi George. The height of the sawhorses was just high enough to clear the stick shifter actually. I think it cleared it by about an inch or so, and that's with the lowered suspension.

Great video, but using blocks ontop of your jack is dangerous and quite risky. Put your blocks underneath the jack, it will get the same lift but is totally safe. Of course your jack wont roll but the back of the car can provide the little bit of shift it needs
@cavemandan12 жыл бұрын
i used a bedframe to build a box inside the body with handles for 2 ppl to lift up or in your case one person and a floor jack and it helped not kink or contort the body...

I have a 1963 beetle. I was wondering if I could drop out the chassis on my 1963 (with the rear swing axle bars) and swap it for a 1968 or higher chassis with IRS. I know that somewhere between 63 and 68 though they widened the swing axles so another question I have is if I could put a 1963 body on a 1968+ chassis will the wheels extend farther out then the fenders? Any help to these questions would be great:D Thanks

I soooo want another beetle, but this time a minter!! But here in the uk, there really aren't any! and it's way to expensive to do yourself...in the uk a mint 60-66 body will cost thousands! :(

Wood body braces GREAT idea, maybe IF this was done on a routine basis maybe use sq metal tubing with plates welded to the tops with bumper brace hole patterns drilled into them, then these can be bolted directly to the bumper brace, on opposite ends of these you could put wheels where the whole body could be moved around in shop. just a modification of YOUR GREAT idea.
