I used to have a 5280. Those speakers were dipolar, full-range 6.5 inch cones in shallow open-back cabinets. But if you angled them just right, and sat directly between them, they were amazingly musical. Move a foot one way or the other, and it all fell apart.

I recall back in the '80s, finding a portable version of one of these in a Salvation-Army store. Sadly, a foam-rubber coupling in the tape drive had disintegrated, and there were no parts available, nor any easy way to rig up an alternative repair.

I love Reel to Reel and 8 Track better than CD and I prefer vinyl over CD

Professional audio engineers couldn't hear the difference between CD and the highest quality digital sources on very high end equipment, but apparently reel to reel tape is better... A properly produced CD is effectively perfect, bad production can ruin the sound on any format. People may prefer the sound of tape and vinyl course, but that's just an imparted sound signature(which could be recreated with filters), it's not higher quality.

@@DoubleMonoLRnot correct. The elcaset format far exceeds the capabilities of cd and the recording industry stamped out production. They protested that the Elcaset format would allow for the ownership of almost original master quality. Much higher fidelity than vinyl or cd. Reel to reel on a proper high end professional machine like studer or ampex can easily match or exceed cd quality.
