1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 for sale at Volo Auto Museum (V20372)

The 1967 was the last year of the Austin-Healey 3000 and arguably the best. It has the biggest hp and is the most refined with roll up windows, rear seating, and standard power disc brakes. This one has been ground up restored. We acquired it from the Claude O estate collection. He had a full-time mechanic maintaining his cars because he wanted to be able to drive any car at any time.
EXTERIOR: Very handsome design. The body is mint! No rust or damage. It fits right; it's straight. Gorgeous Ice Blue paint. The metal flake is laid out evenly; the clear coat is polished like glass. The chrome is all new or very good original. Sparkling chrome wire wheels with knock off spinners. Lucas headlights. Dark blue convertible top is in excellent shape. Original windshield, roll up windows.
INTERIOR: Door panels are mint. Real burl wood dash with Smith gauges, it's all in excellent shape including the knobs and levers. Excellent blue carpet. It has a nice console with the manual shifter and a walnut knob. The bucket seats are correctly reupholstered and has chrome piping. Referred to as "an occasional 4 seater". It has rear seats or a fold up rear deck. The steering wheel is original and showing some age.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: 6 cylinder motor. The horsepower was increased to 150 in 1967 with a high lift cam and dual SU HD8 carbs. The engine compartment was all taken apart and restored. It was correctly restored to factory specs. Correct colors, cloth wrapped wires, the tags are all there. It runs great!
TRUNK COMPARTMENT: Clean and complete. It's painted nicely. Has a correct liner kit. Matching wire wheel and BFG tire for a spare. Battery is located in the trunk and has a factory disconnect switch. Weatherstrip is soft.
UNDERSIDE: It looks like it was all apart and restored. The metal appears to be rock solid and clean. It was painted the body color. The front end steering and suspension looks like it was apart and rebuilt. The brake system was gone through. It has disc in front with slotted rotors, e-brake cables are hooked up. It has the correct dual exhaust system. The motor, trans and rear are clean and repainted. It has the optional electric overdrive.
I understand why these cars are valuable. It has really attractive style in and out. For an English sports car it has good power and nice features. This one looks to be a really nice example. It would be a great time shifting the gears on a nice crisp morning in the country side!

our family and friends had/have many big Healeys from a ‘55 to ‘65. Most of them restored out of my parents home shop building in Bothell WA and many of them award winners at West Coast meets and also the big one (50th anniversary meet) in Snowmass Colorado. Love the sound of this ‘67… exactly like my ‘65, painted in polyurethane original equipment black with clear coat. Deep deep wet looking paint. So many good memories owning it and driving it for over 10 years. Sold it to buy a ‘78 XJ6L Jag I then fully restored. I also owned an award winning ‘59 roadster. Colorado Red over Black bored to 3Ltr with tri webers headers, bj8 center shift trans and XKE clutch. Enjoyed it for nearly 30 yrs. Brought it to Germany when I moved here in ‘98. Eventually sold it to a Brit, so the car is back where it was produced. Neat story. Healeys are a blast to own and always a serious eye catcher attention getter… babe magnets!!!

Back in 73' I had a 65' red mark 3 and it had rollup windows .They said it was the first year to have em and they didn't work that well and never close the door with the window half way up. Loved that car.

The most stunning UK sports cars of All time, design timelees, 3 ltr 6 cyl in line is strong, i used to repair these wonderfull cars, some models had 3 big su carbs, 150 hp, great to drive around in, thanks Jay grams president of volo auto museum and russel for perfect photografy absolutly from tom your friend now and always 🤩 🤩

Gorgeous!! You're right - '67 is last & best year for the big Healey. I love the Ice Blue w/ Navy interior combo. (The ice blue is a metallic color, not 'metal flake'.) Electronic ignition conversion done? A nice aftermarket steering wheel would do well.

I’m 67, my buddy had a 68 Healy, it was silver with those same wire wheels, it was beautiful, and really quick, but guess what, it had electrical issues just like my Triumph TR6, that’s when I went American and bought a 72 Vette, and never looked back

In 1980, I foolishly bought my fiancé a used TR7. Absolutely the worst mistake I ever made with a vehicle purchase. I got to know the local Triumph mechanics on a first-name basis. I gave up on it after 8 months.

Electrics on Healey is fairly simple and straightforward. Old wiring can lead to very poor contacts and groundings… diligent time spent checking it thoroughly most always serves one well. BUT it is Lucas… Prince of Darkness

PS the 3 ltr engine Was Also used in the mgc and westminster saloon car and the police used Them in wolseley 300 and the Austin Princess wanden plas 3 ltr, this motor is so good, PS in rare cars like the Austin healey, you could have automatic 3 speed from borg warner, but wery Hard to find Them, thanks again Jay grams and family 😍 and russel from tom your friend now i

The battery clamp needs sorted asap, it is a complete disaster waiting to happen, it is serious risk of fire if the temporary bracket shorts across the batter terminals. Could you a restorer make such a bodge to secure that battery when the correct bracket is easily available.

@sheldonrobertson5803 - If you are referring to the chrome switch next to the horn button, it looks like the turn signal switch (I knew a British mechanic that called it a "trafficator"). As for the condition of the steering wheel rim, it begs for the kind of leather covers we used back in the sixties, easily laced on and would provide better grip while keeping the new owner from having to replace the wheel (requires pulling the horn/signal switch hub and wires, not a difficult job but can be a bit fussy).
