I bought the Custom Autosound USA 230, a kenwood amp and rockford fosgate 6x9's for my 68 Camaro. It worked OK, but the tone control was far below my expectations and I spent a month trying to convince my self that the sound was good enough. Then i added a Rockville R7EQ 1/2 Din 7 Band Car Audio Equalizer for $40 and it was a game changer. The sound was exactly what I was hoping for and is amazing. Granted at this point the 230 is failrly well bypassed (not using the 230 amp or tone). This equalizer does not need a head unit if you bring your music in with phone and cable to rca pre amp input. But I'm still glad for the 230 as it can be a tuner, does not add interference for my phone cabled sound and can control volume from there. And it looks factory. I put the eq in the glove box.

Sealed box... I have a 68 RS/SS and I have this stereo but I didn’t install. Instead I put a pioneer dvd double din in my glove box I like it a lot plus it surprises people when they get in, also I obviously didn’t cut anything either who wants to cut up there classic cars dash especially in a matching numbers car! I just like the better equalizer and extra features etc and can watch some movie while cruising lol. The retro sound is a good stereo though I think I might sale mine though.

@TurboCamaro677 жыл бұрын
Hudson Hornick that would have been a good point. It's faster than the auto reconnect in my new double din android navigation radio in the truck. The external microphone works well and phone calls either connect or reconnect on Bluetooth almost immediately after ignition on. I can stream music to the car from about 15' away before it buffers. It works exactly as it should, and without issue.

CopyCat Airsoft I'm running 2 10" Pioneer (300w RMS each) subs with a Cadence Mono 600w RMS amp. They are in a non-ported box in the trunk. The amp is mounted upside down under the package tray. Nothing too fancy but I have considered making a couple custom boxes and tucking it in a bit better.

Turbo Camaro sorry my comment was confusing I meant a video showing the quality of the head unit, but nice sub setup
@jacobburgoni24127 жыл бұрын
Also how does this compare to any other modern single din head unit in the same price range for quality sound
@TurboCamaro677 жыл бұрын
+CopyCat Airsoft well the unit sounds much better than the Clarion single din I put in it in 2008. I did go through the settings on the deck but I'm not sure if the actual sound quality will be represented via a KZbin video. With the setup I have I think it would satisfy someone with high expectations. I'm in my 30s and have had nearly a dozen custom car sound systems with different amp and sub combos, most bigger and louder than this, but I would go out on a limb and say this one sounds the clearest, and probsbly the l best overall.
@jacobburgoni24127 жыл бұрын
How does this compare to a standard looking modern single din head unit in the same price range, I am deciding between this setup and a glove box mount for a modern single din head unit and I want lots of good clean sound since I will be spending a lot on performance speakers and 2 12" kicker l7's and this is in a future 69 firebird
@TurboCamaro677 жыл бұрын
CopyCat Airsoft it has the technology of a modern single din unit but looks like the factory radio. It worked well for me as someone had gouged the dash and removed the original deck a long time ago. I wanted the factory look with modern sound, bluetooth, USB charging and no extra wiring and that's exactly what I got. The glove box method would work well too. The sound quality is great and decent EQ settings for tuning. The only modern tech not on this deck is advanced EQ settings, such as the ability to make your own custom presets. This deck is a bit pricier than the average din, however it's a new vintage unit with modern tech, so it's expected.

Can you add a 12 in subwoofer to it? I don’t wanna go crazy with the bass but it does make some music sound better
@TurboCamaro673 жыл бұрын
Yes. It has amp outputs so you can add an amplifier. You'd then hook up a subwoofer to the amplifier. I have two 10" subwoofers in a divided non-ported box, attached to a single amplifier running off this deck and it works very well. You definitely don't need to convince me on the benefits of a subwoofer in a classic car.

@TurboCamaro672 жыл бұрын
No it doesn't. The draw from your headlights could be too much for the circuit or alternator. Could also be the stereo. Not an super easy thing to diagnose unfortunately.

Ahhh, I believe it has an orange "illumination" wire to allow the display to dim. However I just use Bluetooth and have the display off so I only see the radio dial sticker I put over the display. @TurboCamaro676 жыл бұрын
Hey, good question! The stereo is awsome. No regrets at all. I got. Back from a little road trip yesterday and the stereo works flawlessly. Probably the most impressive part is how quick the Bluetooth connects and reconnects. I have to prime the fuel pump for 5 seconds and usually the Bluetooth reconnects either just before or immediately after the car starts. It's nearly instant. I've driven vehicles made in the last few years than seem to drop connection and take ages to reconnect, this stereo is well made and functions how it should. I can't imagine ever replacing it in this vehicle. Plus it looks factory correct!

How's the quality of the knobs? Not all plastic is created equal. Also, there seems to be a gap between the display and the silver border around it. Is that just the camera angle or does it fit snugly in the faceplate? Thanks! Great vid!
@TurboCamaro675 жыл бұрын
The knobs are great. It would be fantastic if they were metal, but I've had this stereo a couple of years and use the knobs every time I'm in the car and they show no signs of wear. There is only enough of a gap to slide the stereo into the faceplate. It's just the darkish video with the black faceplate makes it look like a gap. If you check out my install video you can see things a little closer, including the knobs: kzbin.info/www/bejne/n4erk4eYl66EoLM&t
