“Watching my hero die in front of me was the hardest thing I've ever done. My hero was my father. He was a 6-foot 2-inch man, weighing 220 pounds of solid muscle. He was healthy as a horse as he never drank or smoked. He was addicted to working out. He served fearlessly on the front line in Vietnam. While there, his unit was dropped in the jungle where the chemical Agent Orange was applied the day before. My father was wounded several times. One time, he was hit by a grenade blast that left shrapnel in his body for the remainder of his life. In another blast, his injury was a severe concussion. With each of these injuries, he was put in the hospital only to be returned to the front line after recovering.... READ MORE.

My uncle did two tours in Nam in 1967/68. When he came home in 1969, he bought a used 1965 Corvette Coupe. It’s a Fuelie car and he still has it today.

God bless your family. I served in Nam 1969-70. I would not sell this car if it belonged to my father.

Hell of a story. Situations change, times change and hard decisions have to be made. I'm sorry you are selling it but I'm glad you were able to tell the story. Let's hope the next owner loves and cherishes it the way your family has.

One of the best documented cars I have ever had the pleasure to read/video to watch. There were a lot of servicemen who saved up to buy that special car when they were discharged from active service, but how many still have that car or even exist to this day with that kind of documentation. Thanks for sharing.

As we get older and those of the generation that have bought these cars new pass a way. The question becomes what do we do with them? It be easy to say if I were you I'd give it to a family member to keep it in the family, Also I agree with one other that said with it's history the Corvette Museum! But as a Veteran myself I'm sure you had your reasons for the auction! I hope your ok with the choices you've made and wish you the best!

In one of his dad's old war photos he is standing next to a 1st Cav huey. I wonder which unit of the 1st Cav Keith served with.

wow - touching in weird ways - my WWII bronze star and purple heart recipient dad - had a 62 vette most of my life. Sadly, the ending was not so righteous.

Great story, I am so tired of you idiots saying stuff like "do I hear 20". This car is worth what someone is willing to pay. I would give anything to own it. A complete piece of history. I agree, it should go to GM Heritage Center. I've seen many low mileage 67 435s, but this has to be among the very best. Original only once.

What is the realistic ice for a non matching numbered vette with a 454 and I would put the 427 block in it with an Automatic tranny because of my prosthetic left leg I need an Automatic and if you like Harley’s and got two of them and a pro street bike with a 124sxs polished motor and only has 900Original miles on it!I just can’t drive bikes no more and that’s what I used to do I built bikes,

If you want a legacy for your Dad's Corvette, show us detail pictures of how everything works and is put together. It is all very mysterious when you find an old race car that you want to restore. It would be cool to know all the rpo numbers for every part on it. Then put that with the build date would be a great reference for future guys continuing their own fathers restorations or just trying to put cars they inherited back together. You got lucky. Most dad's drive the crap out of them and wear out parts then replace them from Napa or Checker auto parts forever losing what it was originally. You can help.
