you should also look into using the jeep steering shaft. it features a U-joint style connection version that crappy rag joint. Enjoying the content and looking to start a KZbin to document my el camino LS build. Thanks and keep wrenching!

That pitman arm you have listed, is for a 7/8 center link? Im going from 13/16 to 7/8 idler and center link but can’t find the 7/8 power steering pitman arm for my 64 el Camino . Thanks for the awesome upgrade video as well.

Where'd u wind up buying the pitman arm from? It's almost 200.00 at advance? I paid 35.00 for the steering box.

Do you know what the input/spool valves torsion bar is rated at? Like 35 lbs. The higher, the more feedback road feel. It keyed to the input shaft but narrows to twist as it splines into the spool valve. ASE Master Tech-Retired

Hey great video! Also would this work on a B body frame for a 64 impala? Thanks
@MuscleCarSolutions

This is for the A body only, as far as I know. I’m unsure what box they B bodies use, but I’d guess it might be the same other than the pitman arm. Some Google searches might net you the information you’re looking for.

We are here in my garage working on my 67 Chevelle Malibu and was just wondering I bought everything that you said to buy but we're just off on the bolts that go through the frame to the power steering gearbox by about a quarter of an inch is the steering shaft itself supposed to be able to be shortened so that we can get gain that quarter of an inch? Thanks

wonder if that jgc steering box will fit a 89 S10 pu. I know some early metric G bodies had a similar ratio steering box. but can't find any around here. I've seen the steering shaft mods that are everywhere on YT "No". I'll soon be moking up my V-8 6spd S10 build. really interested in how your truck handles when you hit the streets with it👍

To add to this research, the pitman are size & number of spines make or break this swap. Using info on Rock Auto or some local parts stores will list these numbers in specs, regardless of your actual correct pitman arm. So if 7/8” with 32 splines is the same as your car & the JGC, you’re golden. Companies selling gear boxes list 500, 600 series box with 3 hole and still fit the 4 hole mount. For guys with 67-72 C10’s, our box bolts on the other side of the frame, so you’re screwed. Pressures for gear box vehicles spec at 1,200 - 1,500 PSI and are controlled by the valve behind the 1” nut on the pump. Some companies sell them while some tech will drill the hole larger. Do Not Try this unless you get guidance. Rack & Pinion pump spec at 650 - 800 PSI. The only difference is the valve. 1” = 25.4 mm so the nut could be 24 mm or 26 mm. This is the older style Saginaw pump in a can, not type 2 with a separate reservoir that clips on or on fender. Just uses pumps for boxes if that’s what you have. In 2010 & up, Silverado, Tahoe and others use a rack & pinion so just look and note. Hope this helps! ASE Master Tech since 78 - Retired

Why not just use the stock GM pump from the car getting a new GC steering box? Making new hoses anyway.

Bone Head I’m also swapping a 67 elco. You though are using some nice parts, I’m using all the stock stuff; ecu, decaped injectors, wire hardness, 4.8l, 80e trans. The only aftermarket stuff is a aem 380lph external pump, pac 1218 springs, and the sloppy stage two cam. I’m following sloppymechanic don’t bs me build.

Bone Head I’m not sure how I can send pics here but... motor/trans is in, just got in the intercooler today, I still need to do the hot side... motor is done, trans go HD2 kit is done, I still need to send my wire harness off to LSX Specialties, I’m not sure how to explain it... I’d say the hard stuff is done

Bone Head I don’t have them posted anywhere... I’d share if I did have them posted. I got the impression you’re in the northwest, I’m in Camas WA, perhaps we’ll run into each other someday. I will do this steering box mod too, seems easy enough.

Bone Head I hope the car is fun... someday I’ll fix up the sloppy suspension, your car is looking good, I seen the pics on the word press page and that’s way nice... I’m not too much into looks, just to go fast as hell. My goal is for my car to run high 9’s and do burnouts from 80 mph. Haha the amount I have into my car is under 6k and that’s including the price of the car

Everything is the same on yours. Might double check the rag joint, but for the most part, everything you need is at the end of the video. Have an auto parts store that does hydraulic hoses make you a set and you're on the road. Easy!

Yes. The critical dimensions are the same. It will boot right up. Just make sure you have the right pitman arm and rag joint and head to your local auto parts store that does hydraulic lines to make you a set with the right ends.
