I saw this car at the 1967 US F1 GP at Watkins Glen, NY. It was the loudest, most musical car of them all. Most of the cars sounded like belt sanders. This car had such a beautiful note at speed. It was big, heavy and very fast, but a handful to drive, especially in the rain.

The Lola chassis is surprisingly good too, really on top, and power ratio is pretty fun. Introduced at the end of the season, why not more races win in 1967 & 1968 ?... Think it was the engine reliability problem : more power than others (up to 70 HP), higher rev but more problems. So Honda left F1 in 1968 for the next 38 years...

Interesting how Honda made the intake on the outer side while all the exhaust snakes out of V12's center "valley"- the complete opposite of everyone else. Still a beauty though.

Not really. Look up images of the same season's 1967 Ferrari 312/67. As you'd expect, the Italians did a nicer job of the exhaust 'banana-bunch' from the inside of their V12, then painted them white. Magnificent!

You know, there's no on-board footage of this car easily available, if at all. What would it take to get a good recording, do you think? I've had reasonable results with an "action camera" and an external mic squirrelled away out of the wind on my motorbike. GoPros generally have issues with the mic picking up structural vibrations in whatever it is they're clamped to, and most others suffer wind noise, so the external / high(er) quality mic is almost a necessity. Unless you hide a sound recorder in there somewhere and find a way of synching its audio to the camera. When / if you get that high SPL "3D" microphone, onboard recordings would be amazing!!
@geonerd5 жыл бұрын
Yea, the typical GoPro audio track is a rattling, plasticrap disaster. All it would take is a mid-range digital audio recorder (50 bucks or so), or a typical DSLR or video camera with uncompressed data recording and manually adjustable levels. Add a quality mic with a functional 'dead cat' to eliminate wind noise and you're in business.
