Full Episode
This episode of GEARZ, it’s all about Cougars! No, not that kind of Cougar... the kind with 4 wheels and a legendary pedigree! After a short history lesson about how these cars came into existence and why they were so cool, Stacey rolls the V8 Interceptor back into the shop and digs into the final assembly of this wild ’67 Mercury Cougar. This week’s episode focuses on planning out your final assembly, and taking care of all the little details, before you put the big things in like engine and transmission. Whether it’s planning out your brake system, battery location, or running fuel lines, Stacey shows how a little extra time in the planning department will make all the difference in your build.

This show is full of memories. First, let's talk about the Cougar. I'm 14, been working on lawnmowers, cars, painting cars, and I'm ready for me something to build to drive when I'm 16. .Dad and me went to a junkyard every Saturday. Dad, needed fuses for his 64 Valiant. That thing eat fuses like candy. Dad told the guy, "I got a pocket full of fuses, how much I owe you". The man never charged him, because we bought parts from him. But one Saturday, I look, and there's a Burgundy Cougar, 67-68, I'm not sure. The front end is off, motor and trans no where, but it's manual, it's got a clutch pedal. I notice a decal in the Quarter glass, "Dan Gurney Special". I ask the guy about it. "I've got the engine and trans in the barn. It's a good engine and I didn't want it rained on. It's a 427 4 speed, I'll take $500 for it". I WANT IT!!! Dad said " No, too fast"!. I regret not pushing for it. Just reinstall the engine and transmission, set the front clip back on, and your running. I believe it would've Polished out nice. This was 76, the car was only 8-9 year old. That's my biggest " Dang it!!!". A 70 Chevelle SS 454, great shape, for $1,200 is my second. That was about 84. O! My Schwinn was Yellow, same but mine wasn't that small tire one. Toughest bike I've ever seen. I was the Jump champion. How I didn't get seriously hurt, I'll never know.

The Mercury Cougar was a sharp car back in 1967, but I also liked when they were bigger in the 70s and 80s I loved the bodystyle and then it looked like the Thunderbird

I'm slowly trying to rebuild my daily driver. 96 Buick Roadmaster sedan. Doesn't sound like much, but it's basically the same thing as a Impala SS. The LT1 engine isn't as good as an LS, but it's all I have, so I'm making it work

My father had a 1970 Cougar with the 351 Cleveland Engine. was a cool little runner, until a semi truck pushed him into a ditch and destroyed the frame. that baby was bent into a V right at the A pillar. Was sad to see it go. It would have been a great hand me down car for me!

Guy right down the street from me is working on one for a customer. It's a '55 absolutely perfect original condition. All he is doing is changing the steering wheel and making a shifter. It's so the owner can fit behind the wheel. It will all be able to returned to stock if necessary.
