Recently picked up a 68 Cougar here in California. Needs a lot more than yours but excited none the less. I’ll keep an eye out for future updates on this one!

I remember someone who had a 1968 model. His was a base model and was finished in turquoise blue color. Had a 302 V8, bucket seats with center console.

Nice cougar! I just bought a 68 that's it's bad shape. It hasn't run in 20 years. The seller kept asking "are you sure you want to buy it" after posting new pics of all the rust. I said yes and scheduled a pickup time. I got there and paid him the $500 he was asking before even looking at the car. Got it home and checked all the fluids. Hooked up a remote fuel tank. Tried to start it and after 30 seconds of turning over, it busted off! And for the last couple weeks it starts right up with a touch of the key! Need to get an exhaust and fix brakes. Great video. I should have done one!

@@DantheFixitMan what would have been cool. Was if on your trip home down I-5, you stopped at West Coast Classic Cougar, in Salem OR. They are the prominent cougar parts dealer. Just curious if you have registered your Cougar's Vin number with the Cougar club of America? They try and track all the classic Cougars that are left.

@@FE428Power that would’ve been cool for sure. I didn’t know about them at the time, but since then I have bought a few parts from WCC. They are great. I haven’t registered it with the Cougar club yet, but that sounds like a cool thing too.

Once it’s a little more polished up I plan to go along Route 66 in my 64 Corvair, while there’s still some of the route to see. Car had been sitting for 43 years but she’s running great now. Still a lot of work to do.

My aunt's "Big Man on Campus" boyfried had one of those in 1976. They babysat me and I remember seeing power windows and locks for the first time.

Throw that glass / clear fuel filter out asap . Caused more fires than smokers and lightning strikes combined ! And a fan shroud will make a huge difference.

Will do! I appreciate the great advice, thank you so much. Take care, -Dan

In case you didn't know, you have a rare Cougar due to the bench seat, not many were made.

Wow, so cool! I did not know that about the Cougar. Thank you so much for letting me know! It has already been a lot of fun and I am learning quite a bit about it. Thank you again for the info! Take care, Dan

I was going to say that the bent seat is a very rare option for a cougar. That's not factory air it's a Is dealership installed.

@@johnroof2663 Thank you so much, I am learning quite a bit about this car now that I have it home. On my 74 Dodge Dart, the A/C was installed at the dealership too, not the factory... Thanks for the correct info. I should have looked into that before saying that it was factory. It’s been fun learning about it and working on it. Thx again, -Dan

Sweet looking ride. No stereo system or even radio. That's such a necessity of mine for a road trip. So glad you made it without any major hiccups. Teach your kids all you know about automotives the old school way - the right way to learn. They'll love you for it and take it with them to their grave. I love how things don't get you all flustered. You just say but that's alright or something along those lines. You have a good heart and it comes thru in all your videos.

You have to be careful with a glass fuel filter sitting above the coil wire the glass has been known to break

Thank you David, Yes, I already changed it to a metal fuel filter now. Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man

Really good video of your adventure down to So Cal. Seems like she runs pretty well. Sometimes headers can create more problems than the marginal benefits they provide for a nice driver. But I do understand changing the car to dual exhaust. Gotta have that! If you still have the factory manifolds it might make sense to change them back when the headers start leaking - lol.
@DantheFixitMan Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the nice comment, It really was a lot of fun, and we have been enjoying working on the Cougar and driving it around town. I don’t have the factory manifolds, but so far the headers have been ok…but they’re a little too low on the speed bumps. Gotta go over those really slow or they hit… I would love to go do another adventure like this one again… Just gotta talk the wife into it ;-) Thanks for watching! Take care, -Dan the Fix it Man
