I travelled in these railcars several times from Lahore to Rawalpindi when I worked in Islamabad during mid 1970s. One left at 7 a.m from Lahore and the other at 4:30 p.m. It took 4 and a half hours from Lahore to RWP. The fare was Rs. 14 then increased to 24 rupees with time.

I travelled it from Lahore to Wagah. I was also used to travelled Musa Pak made by its trailers from Lahore - Multan - Lahore during 1988-90. This is an historic train. This rail car was also operating from Rawalpindi to Jhang via Lalamusa and I travelled many times on this railcar from Rawalpindi to Mandi Bhauddin in 1970s. Moreover my elder brother was Foreman of this railcar workshops in Rawalpindi during70s, who worked hard for success of this train. What a beautiful train was this railcar. If I correctly remember, Maiden RAILCAR SERVICE began in mid of 1964 between RWP-LHR 6 a.m LHR-RWP 3 p.m with a single trailor, later on 2-3 trailers around 1970s. I frequently commuted by RAILCAR between RWP-LHR-RWP on weekends/vacations during my school/college days 1960-1970s. I did, once happen to stay in-side CAR CABIN for a while during my travel in the close of 1960s and felt so excited. I preferred to travel by RAILWAY than ROAD TRANSPORT mostly during my youth/SCOUTING-IN-PAKISTAN ACTIVITIES (1960-1980s). I still like to travel by train, indeed!

Good old days remembered.....my father (RIP) was posted at Islamabad and we five brothers use to visit him in summer vacations, before the Japanese version we had the German version which was more comfortable as compared to the Japanese ones. The fare was 8 Rp. and 12 seats of maybe 18 were expensive (22 Rp. with free breakfast in Subuk Raftar running from Lahore to Rawalpindi, early in the morning) the one trailer had the full windscreen at both ends but the Japanese version did not have this feature. Later on, with the Japanese version, another trailer was inducted that was called AC Parlour (every odd number seat was a window seat...I still remember). We had full maps drawn for the seat numbers so that whenever we travelled we could have window seats. Sadly I witnessed the dying era of the German Railcar........many stories about it.................love you for bringing long lost memories of us brothers with Ammi (RIP).

Once there were german DMUs before this .which i saw earlier on rout 1, lahore to jallo 2, lahore to kasur And some times kasur to ganda-singh wala before the floods ruined track of kasur- Ganda-singh wala . Will you please revive those Shuttle DMUs if possible. With regards.
