I just picked up a 1967 rolex today. The crystal was rough so the shop is replacing it with sapphire. I loved your video. I'm watching videos until I get my baby back to me (three days).

I love this watch! So much more elegant and understated than a lot of newer Rolexes.

I find that a lot with the vintage watches, more modern watches feel/look bulkier

More humble than the newer ones. Built to do a job and do it well.

@@natecharleswatches Painted the hands with black? Instead of lume? I have that exact watch. I bought it 1980. It was a bit of wreck. But it’s fabulous now.

1570 cal movement is one of the best from Rolex. It beats at a slower rate of 19600 bph than newer movements which are 28800. This leads some people to think it isn't a real Rolex. You did a fantastic job.

I am very interested in trying to restore a vintage watch for myself, what tools will I need? are there any things i should do to practice before doing such a thing and what watches tend to be easiest?

Did you need to replace the crown stem, it looked a bit bent when you removed it. Nice job well done.

Also what were the time-grapher results?
@natecharleswatches3 жыл бұрын
Annoyingly I did record it but never added it to the video. The readings where a 0.1 beat, 250 amp and gains around 2s/day

Is something off with the date cam? The date change did not look instantaneous. Sometimes the cam's spring gets worn and make the action less snappy.
@natecharleswatches3 жыл бұрын
After shooting the video I did do some digging into that and the post that the date wheel sits on needed a small adjustment as the screw was a smidge too tight causing a little drag

I'm a new wanna be watch maker, what was the blue stuff you used to clean off the face of the watch? I have a 1965 precision I have been working on for a long time. Many Thanks

And they say doctors have the steadiest hands in the buisness. I would rather a watchmaker perform surgery on me instead of a doctor . Weird horology joke. Gent takes his watch to a watchmaker. Tells the watchmaker "there is something very wrong with my watch! It only goes tic , tic, tic ? It doesn't do the tic tok thing as it should?" Watchmaker says "let me see what I can do." The watchmaker then shines a bright flashlight on the face of the watch. The customer who looks rather bewildered asks " what are you doing?" The watchmaker responds while holding the bright light on the face of the watch " we have ways of making you tok" . I know , that one has been around forever. Sorry.
