very enjoyable bought back many memories.i was only about 18 years old but the bike bug was already with me. i am now 73 ,my wife 71 and we still are lucky enough to ride.

A friend and I went for the last day of the 1967 TT. 16 years old we arrived on the Thursday, slept in sleeping bags under some pine trees somewhere near the bottom of Bray Hill. About halfway down Bray Hill a lady let us watch from her garden for ten shillings. She gave us sandwiches, drinks and even a portable radio to listen to the race progress. We watched the 50 cc in the morning and the Senior in the afternoon. Thanks for the wonderful memories.

For me, the 1967 TT races were in the golden era of motorcycle racing. The various marques were distinctly different in looks and sound. It was a more simple and less extravagant time that an ordinary rider who used a bike to get to work everyday could more easily feel a connection. Many enthusiasts experienced the excitement of the TT races by listening to the annually produced phonograph records. The sounds we heard then and the familiar names of the days come back to us in this brilliant little documentary.

1967 was my first TT and it was a wonderful experience. One of the highlighs for me it was leaning over a low wall in some field on the approach to hillberry and watching the leader on the road on the first lap, Mike Hailwood, come past at an incredible speed just a couple of feet from our heads. It was a great event. Thanks, Bill, for so many memories. You are a true enthusiast.

The greatest combination of man and machine ever. Hailwood always said that the 297cc six was his alltime favourite machine and he was virtually unbeatable on it. And you are right, the sound as Mike kept it howling like a banshee was the greatest I've ever had the absolute delight in hearing. Could not believe the way he left us. RIP.

Honda 6 a dream of a machine. I was asked to help warm one up in the paddock at a Classic Bike meeting in the late 80’s. The fact I had me leathers on and just help start my brothers Duke might have helped up. What a 5 minutes that was, cheers guys.

I had the great pleasure to meet both Mike Hailwood and Giacomo Agostini at Brands Hatch in 1967 , both gentlemen were polite and ready to chat to fans true sportsmen .

A friendly Brands marshall let me into the paddock having taken pity on a 16 year old who couldn't afford a pass. I was in awe of getting close to Mike and Ago, though they were both surrounded by large crowds of autograph hunters. It was fantastic seeing the white clad Honda mechanics and the MV mechanics in red fettling those wonderful bikes.

I used to go to Reg Orpins in the early seventies. I lived in Chiswick from ‘72 to ‘78 and worked at E.S. Motors. There were so many motorcycle dealers in London back then, almost all of them have gone in 2022.

I used to goto the Saltbox between 1966 and 1969. We used spread out time between the Saltbox, the Nightingale ( just up the road) and finally rode to Johnson’s Cafe near Brands Hatch. Great times we had.

Thanks Bill, a great compilation from a golden era and I very much appreciate your detailed commentary mentioning those charismatic names that I remember so well. As a 16 year old at the time, my pocket money didn't stretch to visiting the IoM, but I was fortunate enough to see Mike the Bike and Ago having a ding-dong dice at Brands Hatch which was near my home in Kent. The Saltbox Motorcycle Club banner at 0.49 caught my eye, remembering the Saltbox Cafe as a refreshment stop when I visited Biggin Hill for the Saltbox Scrambles meetings that were held near there in the 60's and 70's.

@@billsnelling3285 So many of those 67TT names you mention also raced at the Brands Hatch meetings I attended regularly having struggled up Death Hill on my BSA Bantam 150! I made it to the IoM in 2003 on a family holiday and enjoyed driving around the TT circuit at a sedate pace in our Volvo estate, visiting all those hallowed and inspirational places from TT history. The Mountain Motorcycle museum was fantastic. I'd certainly be interested in your Autobiog - how do I order please?

...and I love those wheel-filling four-leading-shoe front brakes on the Yamaha 250s...there's nothing in the braking world like the initial bite of a 4LS drum brake that's the size of a pie plate with car-width (2") linings.

Magic, I was there as a Fan the sounds bring back so memories. Bill and Tommy had a ball, some say they were not 'proddy bikes' but who are we to question!!! John's ride was ace I watched at Hilberry and it was a bit damp but to see John keep it 'flat' there whilst the frame decided to flex was a sight to behold!!

Thanks for that. When I realised that this was 'still' photos I lost a bit of interest but it turned out to be very interesting. I first got hooked on the TT in 1957 when my sisters boyfriend brought to our house the TT issues of the "Green Un" and the "Blue Un". Living in Hong Kong for 27 years then the Philippines for 20 years I finally got to the Manx GP about 5 years ago. In Hong Kong I was a race official several times at the Macau GP. Being on the committee of the HK Motorsports Club I once attended a cocktail party at which both Mike Hailwood and Stirling Moss were present. About 8 years ago I met Phil Read in Hong Kong and had a few beers with him.

Great to see Velocette getting 1st and 2nd in the 500cc production class in 1967. with the squish head ! I ride a 60 Venom. I like the BSA and Norton and Matchless as well. And the Triumph. and Douglas. BRITISH SINGLES !!!

I had a Douglas Dragonfly at one time (1961) which I set off to ride to Switzerland, however only got me as far as Watford (60 miles) before timing chest gears decided they were going to have a bit of a 'chew up' After a fellow biker stopped to help and unbelievably put the up the night and helped strip the bike to find the problem, next day took on his Sunbeam S7 Sidecar to "Pride & Clarke" London to obtain the parts. Returned and fitted the new gears, and he insisted it was too late too set off and stop another night. Next day set off for Dover but my confidence in the Douglas was broken and ended up storing the Douglas at Dover and taking the train.

Great photos and great memories.I was there to see the Senior aged 15.I was on Glencrutchery Road just before the grandstand across the road under the trees.I particularly recall Mike Hailwood at the end of lap 1 giving a "Thumbs down" to his pit so there was obviously something amiss with the Honda.And later on after Ago had broken down he returned to his pit with tears rolling down his face.I often wondered how he got the MV back with no chain.Maybe he got towed by a travelling marshall.As good as the TT is today ,for me there is no comparison with the sounds and excitement of the sixties.We used to get the midnight day excursion boat from Liverpool and in 1967 the landing stage was packed with fans boarding the steamers chanting"AGO....AGO..."or others including me with"HAILWOOD...HAILWOOD"Fantastic memories!

The 1968 Production TT win by a Dunstall Norton was the first win by a disc-braked motorcycle at the IOM and I believe the first at ANY major motorcycle race. Wonder if it was the same bike Smart ran to 2nd in '67?

We used to travel from Woking, Surrey to Biggin Hill to watch the scrambles racing. Arthur Lampkin comes to mind. Also to Brands Hatch to see many of those guys. Hailwood, Agostini, Read, Ivy, Cooper. It's amazing to see how close some spectators were from the bikes as they came past. That wouldn't be allowed now I don't think.

Hi Paul. I used to belong to the Saltbox Club at Biggin Hill before I moved to this little rock in the middle of the Irish Sea, the scrambles at Biggin Hill were (I think) run by the Double 5 Club. Spectators are still pretty close to the action here on the Island!

First place I rode it to was The Saltbox. I cant remember any names but I think the guy in the first two riders was called Bob Day. No idea why I remember that as I didnt know him. Later done a few trips to the TT with fellow Saltbox riders. great days.

Rossi got lucky. Had Honda not pushed for the change to 4 strokes, having a bike developed and ready to go, while others(like Mercedes in F1 with the hybrids), spent years catching up. He's no Casey Stoner or Kenny Roberts, good, but never the best, Casey had more natural ability!
