When American Motors Corp Initially Introduced The AMX, It Was At The Daytona International Speedway In February 1968. Then A Week Later, It Was On Display At The Chicago Automobile Show. The Model Designation Stood For “American Motors Experimental”. Built Off A 97-Inch Wheelbase, It Looked Like A Short Javelin With Louvered Hood Bulges And A Non-Divided Grille Treatment. Model Emblem Identification Was Within A Large Ring Of Chrome On The Side Panels.
Production Total Of Only 6,725 For The 1968 Model Year And Of Those Only 484 Had The 290ci V8 Engine With The Automatic Transmission.
