I'm wanting to keep the stereo system as low key as I can so I replaced the rear deck cover so no speaker grills are seen and put the radio under the front seat. Eventually I will add black plastic sides to the radio to make it more finished looking.

You could also get your original radio converted to am/fm with auxiliary input and usb if you look around online I found a few channels on KZbin advertising and demonstrating it ... Awesome stuff

I agree, there are people out there to do the conversions and I could do so myself and if I ran into issues, I work with a good electronics tech. I've been involved with car audio since the late 70's. I just ran into a guy at our local Easter show and I had converted his 40's radio over 20 years ago and he was asking if my warranty was still good and I said yes and I then asked if he was having issues and he said no and that it's working just fine. On his they used to make shafted radio's and I took the shafts out of the new cassette radio, modified them and the original 40's knobs to fit into his 40's radio chassis, then extended the wires to the rest of the new radio mounted in the glove box. I then took the digital display out of the new radio and glued it behind the factory dial face after extending those wires. It was a neat conversion for the time and today the electronics are getting smaller and smaller and it probably wouldn't be hard to fit all of the new guts into an older radio chassis. I just wonder where things will go now that 8 tracks are done, cassettes are done, and with CD's almost gone away. Thanks for sharing the info you found. Jim

Thanks for the info. The issue with the current retro sound radio's is they offer the universal fit style ones and have the digital display on them with no factory station numbering and a chrome filler around the edge and it would look wrong and not original looking. They do offer a newer style radio (like for a 69 Camaro) that offers a better original look but nothing is offered for the 68 Nova. The 68 has many one year only parts (such as the radio, instrument panel, heater controls, and a few other things) and if retro sound would ever offer a replacement for mine that has the cosmetics of the original I would look closer at getting one. One thing I would like to see changed is a way to be able to plug in an Ipod and be able to control it from the radio's knobs. Currently I've only seen them with an AUX audio input and you have to control the track selections from the Ipod itself. Another is also offering a single plug to allow charging of the Ipod (as well as passing audio and allowing remote control from the indash radio). A lot of radio's or interfaces today allow you to plug in an Ipod to get the audio out of it, control it from the radio AND also charge the Ipod's internal battery. Jim
