Sweet job! The 68 500 and R/T had the best tail panel of any car of that era, especially when the lights came at dusk.

My 1968 Dodge R/T has the 1969 Ramcharger hood as well. The 69 hood came with a functional fresh air grabber box set-up that's activated from the dash. The base plate air cleaner sits on the carb while the upper section is bolted to the hood itself along with runners going to the underside of the hood scoops. The driver can active the scoops by opening the gates in the scoops to allow cooler air from the outside. The 1968 had a nice choice of air cleaners...either an Unsilenced air cleaner (the one that's in the video) or a dual snorkel air cleaner. If you had to pick a style for a Ram hood that was minus the Ramcharger set-up...the Unsilenced air cleaner I think would be the best choice to take advantage of the fresh air being forced into the engine bay. The original 500 cars were more style and comfort, but this finished product is every bit a muscle car and is an A+ in my book.

All that talk about how many hours for all the details that the owner wanted, and the meticulous body fit that interior, and paint in the trunk, the upgrades, etc, then do a big old burnout haha😁😁

The saddest thing to ever happen to any muscle car is it to become so valuable it can’t be driven the way it was meant to be. I’m sure glad I learned to drive when all these cars were being handed down to us as 8-10 year old vehicles. My friends and I had a blast working on each other’s cars.

I had a 70 500 in college, early 80s. Still my favorite car although my current 66 383 727 Charger is right there. I've been followed home by ladys just wanting to go for a ride, lmao.

I thought the 500 had a 383 and the 440 was only in RT Model's? My parents bought a 68' Cornet 500 383 brand new off show room floor when I was 5 years old. Alway's loved that car and wish they would have saved it for Me. Maybe some day I will get one.

The biggest engine you could get in a Coronet 500 was a four barrel 383! Not the same as the hi performance 383 standard in Super Bee and Road Runner. The Coronet 500 was never considered a true muscle car. This is still, one nice Mopar!

Ramcharger hood wasn't available until 1969. But looks great on a '68.

@@wedge4hire The model 500 with the 383 4bbl was in fact the same engine that came in bees and runners. The engine code H is identical. I have a 68 Coronet 500 H code ragtop. I bought it from Rocket Restorations (Mopar only) in WA State. www.tpocr.com/dodgevin4.html

You are correct. The 500 had two 383 option, the 2bbl version and the high performance 4bbl version H code engine, the same as in Super Bees and RR. www.tpocr.com/dodgevin4.html

Both HP 383 engines were 4bbl with one being 330hp vs 335hp, the later being in the SB and RR. The 335hp had a different cam, springs and windage tray.

Did the Coronet 500 ever actually have that hood and stripe from the factory?

No.

So.. my mom has this same kind of car sitting in her garage for 35 years now 😐. I wonder how much it would cost to restore and if worth doing? I dont believe it's a 440 though I thought she said 300?

Or a 318?

Never heard of a 440 with 2.02 intake valves, kinda small?
