Nobody could believe their eyes when the head came off this numbers matching 440 and there was a BOLT inside the piston. Nick got down to work and rebuilt the engine, tested it on his dyno, and now it's back in the car and ready to roll. PLUS Nick test drives the Cobra AND tells us all the story of how he first found his passion for cars and engines.

That Coronet R/T holds a special place in my heart. My Father bought a Y2 yellow automatic '68 Coronet R/T in 1972 for $750. That was the first true High Performance car I ever rode in. I was 14. The first ride was from Winneconne, Wisconsin to Milwaukee. When we got on the Interstate coming out of Winneconne he stood on it from about 50mph to 110mph. I had never before ridden in a car that pulled like that! I was a MoPar guy from that moment on to this day. That R/T was only in the family for a few years but oh what an impression it left on me. I now own a 1968 Hemi Super Bee in the same Y2 yellow color. It's my connection to my Father. RIP Dad, I miss you.

Those break checks are always a little scary for me. I was driving my 1969 Charger going down a hill in the Capitol Hill district in Seattle and came to a complete stop twice. I then made a turn onto a level street and hit the gas. Coming to a red light, I hit the brakes again and . . . nothing. The drum brakes were so heated after the other two stops that they had given up. I hit a lady's Mercedes and damaged my front fender while trying to dodge traffic in the intersection. After that, I converted to 11" front disk brakes using Mopar parts from other years and models going by a parts list I found in a Mopar magazine.

Good to see the Coronet back on the road. That's a long road trip to Texas. I went from Detroit to Laredo TX, when I got to the TX border I was only half way there! Man that's a big state, like a Canadian Province! My first car was a 68 Coronet. Let my friend drive it and he lost it and totalled it! Man I miss that car. It was straight and rust free.

Great job getting a proper guy who knows something about video production. He is able to get us into the cars and the garage with you, and that is what makes all the difference. Love that big boy Coronet, 'drivers' make great show cars too. I wish I had my father's '69 Monaco 440--fast, great highway car, A/C like a freezer, white on black 4 door. Nice gift of the center backup light for your car, Nick. People send gifts because your show really means something to them, it's not just the cars. It's the camaraderie.

After watching Nick make coffee that strong, it makes my hair curl! You don't 'get in' a Cobra.....you 'put it on'...... Nick, I almost died of starvation (for an old fat guy) when you showed the Greek pastries.....I rented my little house from my Greek landlord when I was in grad school. He and I were bodybuilders and he owned a Greek Mom/Pop cafe. Needless to say, we could sure put away those pastries back in the day. Man, the memories.... Oh, yeah, good job on the Cobra....thing seems to have a lot of goose.....Keep the Faith

Late '60s?? We were born the same year Nick, but I tore down my first motor at 4 years of age. I'd been handing tools to Dad, G'pa, others on our farms for more than a year. Left at home that day and I seen that 3 hp Briggs & Stratton for a grain auger-it was on. And when I mean tore down, I had everything disassembled but the carb still laying in 1 piece. I didn't expect the result I got when I showed Dad, it was put it back together right or the belt was coming off. I'd already had 1 belt tanning when he caught me with his .44 mag and I wasn't taking another one. It ran, I'm sure he pulled it back apart and tightened bolts/nuts after the first start up, but it sat on that auger for years. Wish I'd of stayed with it as you have though. I hadn't owned any tools in a couple decades but emergency tool kits for vehicles until lately. Now I'm taking care of my 4 outboards and just did first start up today for a friend on her 115 hp Yamaha the factory messed up by installing #4 rings backwards and one upside down-not the same as a MOPAR or FOMOCO.

always fantastic! I learned at a young age also Nick I was about 10 when I wanted to know how engines worked so I walked way down to the junkyard and got a lawnmower engine tore it down learned how the ole faltheads worked.. Started to fix them and build go carts and mini bikes until the neighbors told my dad to make me stop.. I finally got to engines when I was 16.. Tore my first one down put in new bearings and rings then back together and low and behold it ran.. to this day I do not know how it did run.. I guess I just have the intuition of those that work with there hands.. But alas this winter was my last when the 63 t-bird roadster left I quit working on cars.. it has just become to painful in my old age.. But watching your show helps ease the pain a bit..Thanks for the share Nick and please carry on...

GEORGE! Good Lord, man, how do you keep upping the ante week after week? Video Dude is becoming like a cinematographer or something! Outstanding work, sir - although I have to admit I'm going to snicker the day you whack something with that camera stick while Nick is driving. :-) Yep, Nick, I agree - I love the sound of a healthy 18 spline 4 speed as it whines it's way up and down the gears. I just got my rebuilt one in my own GTX and I just love that sound. It's very uniquely Mopar sounding! Oh wow, UNCLE TONY!?! I didn't know you knew Tony DeFeo, Nick! He's another of my favorites that goes back decades. That guy has street cred like few others and yes, his YT channel is a riot, too. VERY cool you two guys know each other! Next, you'll be telling me you know Rick Ehrenberg.... :-) Yes, of course we always watch the whole episode. I've never missed one since you started the channel and the Patreon and merch money is the least we can do. I gladly do so as long as you want to keep doing this! I had a VW-Manx that was a 1963. The VW dealership helpede build a 2140 cc motor with Empi parts. It was just like you said about a kit car. It felt like a toy to drive but it was a real car. It didn't pass the safety inspection so I could run it down the dragstrip. That's what my 65 Barracuda was for. I fell in love with the original Hemi under glass. My dad and I put a 392 in that car that my dad built on paper and them in real life. He was only off by 30 hp at 5800 rpm from his paperwork to the Dyno. He worked at Chrysler do it's in our blood. My dad passed away in 2003. He forgot more then I ever knew and I can build a motor. Anyway sorry for the rambling. You bring back a lot of good memories hanging around my dad as a young child with all his racing buddies in the garage working on cars and drinking a few beers. My dad always had the old cases of bottles of beer stacked up in the corner and he would tell me to load them up and he would take them back for the deposit and he would buy a few more. It was those little jobs like going under the car to pick up a dropped socket or a bolt. You know that they always go to the center of the car if you drop them or they fall into the frame or a little book that only small hands can get. I remember my dad holding me upside down so I could track a bolt. That is how I started working on cars in 1973. Thank you and have a great day.

Thats the reason young guys today like Crew Cab trucks lol..Not as cool or quick as a Coronet RT but has a big back seat and a bed!

@@01trsmar Before I finally found a wrecked charger with a 440 magnum to put it mine, I still used that back seat. You could live in the trunk. One thing I liked that dodge did, they had adjustable front suspension bolts, so you could lift it or lower it. All car manufacturers should have did this. Simple design.

I had a 68 Super Bee Scat Pack. Converted it to a 413 solid lifter flat tap with over 600 lift, 4 speed, 3:23:1 posi, some suspension mods, headers with oval straights, and L60X15s all round. No problem burying the speedo needle with plenty to go. That car was built in Canada and weighed 2600 LBS. You guessed it, No power assisted anything and it ran with points dist. and a 60,000 volt hyd. coil.
