I had one bought new in 1968. Ran 13.00 at 108.00 MPH. It was such a fun street car. Pull the engine down after 65,000 miles on the street and and drag strip. The engine was in great shape. Mine was the 400 CI that came in the car. We put a 4.50 lift Engle hydraulic cam changed to a Holley. I won so many street races with it. Sold it in about 1973. One thing that was different about the one I had it was a automatic with a column shift no console or floor shift. Dealer knock off $400.00 because he said no one wanted it without a console. I didn’t care.

That is quick. I had a 1969 Firebird Convertible 400 4 spd. I pulled the Hi Compression 400 and built a 9.5 to 1 463 cu.in motor with D-port 96 heads. Still running an M22 4 spd and a 10 bolt with 3.42 gears. I ran it at the track only one day. I was running in the 12's with a best of 12.66 at 111 mph. They said I had to put a roll bar in it if I wanted to come back and race again. I never did.

Any FAST coverage is ALWAYS good!👍👌 When I was a kid, I would've laughed and said, "duh, it's missing the trim rings," and pounded on a set of universal ones... Now I know that when Pontiac sent Rally II wheels out the door sans trim rings, they usually meant business. When I was a kid, my neighbor had a '68 Lemans in that green, with a black vinyl top and buckets/console interior! That's not the Verdura Green I don't think.

Thats frigging fast. I had a 67 400 with headwork, a Comp Came 288 hydraulic, holley single plane with an 850. Replaced the m20 with an m22. And this car was faster!!! Best I ever got was 12.20 at 110 Nicely done.

IMPRESSIVE times, mid/high 12's down from almost 15 second car is a good improvement and mph matches et too, What are you running for gears? I saw some 'Butler' vids, they are Pontiac experts and know how to make HP from them. A stock 400 Firebird probably run 14.8-15, i am 68 and know how they ran STOCK back then, an old GTO run about the same, barely break into the 14's unless very low gears but thats how they were then, terrible head ports on some vehicles, core shift, etc. not like todays AL bolt on heads where everything matches and many times match the modern cams pretty well.
@musclecarcampy992210 ай бұрын
3.31 gears.

@@musclecarcampy9922 Impressive time for that ratio and that 455 is a torque monster, great weight transfer off the line. That's a nice car to have some fun with without going so radical you really can't enjoy it or run that $$$$$ race gas. Mid 12's is all a Yenko would run stock back in the day and that was with some slicks, even a 13 second car THEN demanded respect, most of them were mid to high 14's

So I gather modifications are allowed in his class. Stroker kits, big cams, modified stock heads and carbs. The issue to overcome is getting these cars to hook up on those crappy old tire designs. F.A.S.T. cars can be heavily modified while “appearing” stock. Im curious if his wife still drives it on the street regularly?

I see 6X heads. Are they -4s, or - 8s? With 4s on a 455, will give very nice compression, (with the exception of trying to find fuel for the fire). Also appears you have the big cast iron exhaust. Super nice. Sweet ride. (But for me, I'll take a hrdtp, and a stickshift). Hope the wife enjoys it. Does she race it too?
@davidmarquis682 жыл бұрын
They are -8. So my compression is pretty low. I think around 9.2. I may change that in the future. I have a couple other sets of heads I can choose from. Those are reproduction Long Branch exhaust manifolds. They flow well. But weigh a lot! I would prefer a hard top too. Roll bar rule is preventing me from making the car faster. I have a 71 Formula that I should be racing next year. Should be right up to the yard top role bar rule. Wife still not driving it. When the other car is done, I might have to make this one more street friendly. Better brakes. Better handling.

The Banshee was not allowed because it was seen as a threat to the corvette. Can't take away sales from the precious corvette. Or take away chevy's status as leader of G.M. and leader in sales and performance. G.M. wanted a car to compete with the popular Mustang so the Firebird was going to happen anyway.
@NoPrivateProperty2 жыл бұрын
Love the car, but you're about 500hp shy of being competitive in FAST class. Rag top not the best choice to race either
