What a gem , enjoyed the video and the engine shot under load . The bottom end walk through was fitting for such a terrific machine. Glad to see such an original gem still getting around and the diligent owner showing some mechanical love . Always did like these timeless classics, great video fella

Another sweet video. This is the first time I've seen a camera shot from inside the engine bay while driving, superb! Reminds me of a dyno pull video but better because you can see the sunlight move around as you drive and go through the gears. That little motor is a real workhorse. How many CCs is the engine now? The fact that you put the smog pump back on is really cool too. So rare nowadays, if someone doesn't want it connected just remove the belt I guess. Keep doing what you do, it makes the Porsche brand so much better, of course I want to buy an early 911 and you might be causing prices to rise so take it easy until I get my car!

Hey Bob, I am trying to capture the true sound of these engines, learning a little more each time. This engine is 1720cc or 86mm “big bore” pistons and cylinders and it has a mild street cam, the rest is stock original parts but there is a large amount of specialty massaging to those parts to make them work a little better. Carburetion is fully restored/machined/jetted just right plus a week of tuning. The other challenge of these early motors is oil leaks which it looks good so far.

I noticed that the engine had the smog air pump that was unique to the 1968 model year 912s in the US. I purchased a new '68 912 and removed the internal rotors so they were then non-functional. That made it illegal but the engine ran better. Thankfully Porsche got rid of this on 1969 models.

Hi, what is the part number (name) of the heat shield that sits between the engine and deck lid grill? I cant find it. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
@vintageexcellence6 ай бұрын
@@Gloomwithaview It is called a rain tray. The purpose is to keep rain water off the distributor. It is a plastic part with 6 aluminum stand offs. Only came on 912 but came on all 912s. Not a heat shield and it does not restrict engine cooling air.
