Drink lots of coffee, start it up, slam your hand in the door and drive mad. The best way to run those old two strokes

Soundtrack of my childhood. My dad had many of these and all my mornings started with several of them sitting out there "searching". He adjusted them that way on purpose.

It actually rode pretty good compared to some of the trucks I drove in 50 years of trucking. That's a nice buggy I would love to drive it.

The first big truck I drove other than 6 wheel dump trucks on the farm, was 1965 cab over Transtar with a 238, 6-71 with a 10 speed. brings back sweet memories. This crackerbox had twin stack's, it more then likely has a 318, 8V-71. If he would have revved it up more you would be able to tell the difference. It was definitely a Detroit, can't mistake that sound. 🙂

318 was my guess. God, how many of these did I seehaulin steel around Youngstown back in the 70’s thru mid 80’s???

Screaming yammahammer. I pulled a BULL WAGON with a 1966 red 10 speed in the 1970s. It did really well for 318. Keep it tacked out screaming an you can haul it.

John, Thats probably more true than you think. I drove a 64 crackerbox with the inline 6-71 238 horse power, 5 speed over drive, and 2 speed drive axle. That thing some days it was fun some I would cuss at it. I made a few bucks with it though.

Yes. And I thought Astros were so cool looking as compared to cracker boxes. I thought cracker boxes were butt ugly. However, I must admit, this is the most beautiful cracker box I've ever seen in my life and I would be proud to drive it. 😊
@bertgrau3934
@bertgrau3934 Жыл бұрын
@@rolandsolomon7728 Having driven both, I liked the Astro best. Had a better heater, smoother riding ( had air ride suspension) and a bigger sleeper, much more comfortable. I put card board along the bottom of the windshields to help keep the sun out. It had an 8V92 TTA 430 horsepower with a 9 speed transmission. A strong puller, but horrible fuel mileage. 4.5 MPG at best.
@rolandsolomon7728
@rolandsolomon7728 Жыл бұрын
@@bertgrau3934 Well, the Astro that I drove, a 1973 with a naturally aspirated Cummins 903 engine, didn't have a great heater. I didn't have air ride either. However, that Reyco spring suspension still rode nice in comparison to other suspension systems. I also loved and appreciated the tilt steering wheel, since it didn't have power steering and I was a short, skinny fellow. Oh.....wait a minute. I'm still short. 🤣😂

Wow that's like the cascadia, prostar and Volvos but from the '60s, i looks cool today cause its a classic now but i bet when those were new thay were ugly trucks like the cascadia prostar and Volvos today are jajaja... Don't worry air-dinamic cascadia prostar and Volvo truck owners one day 40-50 plus years from your (throw away ugly truck) with be as cool as this GMC is, but won't sound like a real truck sounds, it will keep sounding like a space 🌌🚀 mobile jajaja .
