GMC Jimmy with a 8V71 Detroit Diesel, A purrrrrrfect combination. I like the paint colors and the style of the ventage GMC grill. There were so many around in the day but not so much anymore. With the nick name of wetbelly DOT kinda killed the Detriot 71 Series Engine. I can remember groing up in the 60's Publix Groceries and many other Grocerery chains would use that truck line to deliver to the stores throughout central FLORIDA . You know a Detriot coming down the road. I miss those days.

Oh brings back memories. The first dumptruck I got to ride in when i was a little kid, was a longhood like that. 318 w/a 13 spd. There is still a few around here in Thunder Bay.

I'll never forget seeing my first long hood 9500! Always love them. When I was in the Navy, I learned how to drive one of these. It had a 318 w/ 5×4 transmissions. U.S. Navy bought a bunch of these.

Thats a perfect truck resto. No crazy flashy chrome, no giant stacks, no crazy paint. I bet money each and every switch works. Headlights pointed perfect and doesn’t leak oil. Extremely nice truck

OUTSTANDING. That was a perfect steel hauling truck back in the Day. You should have asked him about the single axle and air tag. Real steel haulers would load the wagon. A few were, usually Michigan Specials, heavier front axles, 44k rears for pulling the Michigan trains.

Neighbor up the road from me when i was a young boy had one that was a single round headlights. Had the old detroit and all. Crazy story i went on a youth trip to Atlanta and we passed my Neighbors truck going the other way on interstate. Next time i seen him outside i stopped and asked he said yes he was going through Atlanta about that time on that day so that was cool. That truck is why ive always loved that style gmc and Chevrolet trucks. And maybe one day i could find one worth restoration for a show truck.

Miss Red : Thats a 😎 Jimmy. I'm not sure if its the same truck. But when i was a kid in Henderson KY. At the old UNION 76. On US41 by the Ponderosa there was a truck similar to this one would roll thru had a covered wagon. Lots of aluminum and a couple steel mills in the area. Same color and everything. As a kid i thought it was an Odd Duck. Only 9500 i remember seeing with a sleeper on it. They were a LTL Line haul truck. These new drivers with their fancy automatics and plastic trucks Have NO IDEA. about buying an old truck and building it to fit you needs.

I remember back in the day the Union 76 Oil/Gas Company had a bunch of long nose 9500’s, painted orange & they were day cabs, of course. 8V71’s, but I don’t remember if they were 10 or 13spd’s. Most of the ones we seen were in the N.E. Ohio area.

@@jerrykinnin7941 Yes Sir, the old Anchor Clankers used the short nosed 9500 with the 6-71/238 Detroit. Had a friend that started with them in the late 1970’s out of the Lordstown plant. He said sometimes on the P.A.Pike going up some of the hills he would be down on the low side of the tranny with the 4-way flashers on & the 238 just screaming away in the right lane & always hoped another truck or anything else for that matter would come up & clobber the rear end while struggling to get up the hill. Back then when Overdrive Magazine was published, each month they featured a “Junk Fleet of the Month” article, and wouldn’t you know it Anchor Motor Freight actually was highlighted in there one month.
