Great description, and to the point. I think I'm missing the small plastic washers on mine that's why it continually goes off haha. Time to try to fix that.

I backdated my 69 dash to the earlier ones as well wanted to know where you found the radio cover and the process for adding the chrome molding trim too! Thanks buddy!
@CMSgarage963 ай бұрын
The radio block off plate I found on eBay. The block off plate comes with its chrome trim that has pre-drilled holes. The rest of the dashes chrome trim is a kit from J-Bugs.com. I had to drill my own holes in the dash for the trim clips. Just find the center up and down on the dash, measure twice and drill with a metal step bit. Side to side doesn’t matter too much because the clips slide behind the trim. I probably should have made a video on that too. Good luck with it! Thanks for watching!

Great video! I have a 1971 Super Beetle and was excited about not having to use a steering wheel puller, unlike my Chevy Nova!

I'm getting ready to remove the steering wheel on my '65 and I found your video very helpful. One thing ... I think the bevel on the contact ring is supposed to point in the other direction.

How do you like the United Pacific wheel compared to stock. Can you notice any difference. Does it feel cheap? Thank you
@CMSgarage969 ай бұрын
It's really nice! It doesn't feel cheap at all.

Great video, clear, good lighting, good camera work. Question about the brass plate "cup". Some videos have the raised rim facing up towards the ring and others have it facing down to the floor. You have a 68, I have a 67 bug, is there a big difference? I've tried both ways. One way the horn honked when I just turn the wheel. The other direction I didn't get any horn at all. Is there a big deal about the plate cup direction?
@CMSgarage966 ай бұрын
Thank you and thanks for watching! The way I installed my brass plate in the video seemed right to me. My horn works fine, I just had to adjust the three screws a bit. I had a guy tell me mine was backwards. Like I said, my horn works fine so I’m leaving it. I don’t believe there is a difference with a 1967. I’ve never owned one so I can’t be 100% sure. Maybe try adjusting your 3 screws that hold the horn button on, some more. Did your horn work well with your previous steering wheel? If you have the old chome horn button setup try that one with the new wheel.

@@CMSgarage96 I just put on a new ring kit, no wheel, yes it worked before. I broke the ring honking, cheap metal. I have power when I touch that wire to the screws. First time back together I had a short somewhere and it honked when I turned the wheel. So I flipped over the cup and I get nothing when I push the ring. Weird. I thought maybe I had the plastic sleeves in wrong or that wire should be mounted with sodder to that clip thing.

@@donk.johnson7346 gosh! I wish I had the answer. I would just keep messing with it. It has to be something simple. It’s just not making a good connection. Good luck with it!
@donk.johnson73466 ай бұрын
Here is one thing I might have messed up. To keep those springs in the holes in the wheel, I put a drop of liquid electric tape on the ends that fit in the wheel it's self. Otherwise they kept falling on the floor while trying to line up the ring and screws. It should not mess with the contacts. But there is that bit of difference.

Yeah maybe that stuff is acting as an insulator. @@donk.johnson7346

Where did the clip for the wire even come from?
@CMSgarage969 ай бұрын
Not really sure what you mean? The piece of medal that holds the horn wire down? If that's what you mean, it was part of the original wheel.
@daencabrera109 ай бұрын
@@CMSgarage96the little black clip that holds the horn wire on. I assume it didn’t come with the new steering wheel? I have the exact same one and I already put it on, Im just confused about the horn wire clip because I don’t have one
@CMSgarage969 ай бұрын
Yeah I don't think it came with the new wheel. I used the one from my old wheel. I don't think you really need it though. You can just loop the wire under the screw. Or you could add a round ring terminal to the end of the wire. @@daencabrera10

I thought the steering wheels with the horn notch came only on 63-64 beetles?

Are you referring to the chrome horn ring maybe? This style of steering wheel was used on 1962 to 1971 beetles.

Hello! Thank you for the super informative video. You mentioned finding your blinker assy on Amazon. Will it work for a 1966 bug? If so, do you mind linking it? Thank you!
