What a lovely trip back in time! My husband and I had the pleasure of staying in the York Hotel back in 2000 and seeing Tom Wopat and his combo in the Plush Room. It was magical! One of our favorite vacations...
Thank you, Michael, great research job! I am in SF just now, 3 days just to visit the Vertigo film locations. SF is still a magical city.

This is the best film location video I’ve seen. With a talented, pleasant host, I can’t imagine why you don’t have more subscribers than other channels with the same niche. Thanks!

Thank you so much for saying so. Although, I have gained a lot more subscribers over the past 2 years, but still, not all that many views per video (except for a few).

It made for a nice few outings to get out of the house during these pandemic times.

Very nice job. Not only did you include technical details of the film's creation that I enjoy (process shots, cuts between location and sound stage, etc.,) but you also included some of Herrmann's incomprehensibly-inspired musical cues, some of the best of his entire career. Hitchcock always wanted to shoot a film in San Francisco, which he referred to as "America's Paris." Thanks for putting this together.

Thank you. After I made this I found out that several others had made similar Vertigo film location videos and I felt a bit let down that my idea ended up being so un-original. But, I had fun making the video and I'm glad to know there are people out there enjoying it.

@@MichaelDJ68 Don't feel "let down!" Virtually every YT video has others that are "similar." I thoroughly enjoyed yours for the reasons I described. You did a very good job!

That is Fort Point. It was on my running route when I lived in the Marina District of SF! That hill is Russian Hill. I lived there as well. The Mark Hopkins Hotel.

Thanks for an excellent video. This is a top ten favorite film of mine and I really would like to visit the area in a year or so.

Then you'll have to stay at the Hotel Vertigo. I'd probably stay at the St. Frances myself--it's also close to a lot of the locations.

You forgot to show Union Square from where Jimmy Stewart was filmed in Vertigo. Great video nevertheless. Enjoyed it very much.
@MichaelDJ682 жыл бұрын
Actually, I'm not sure what scene you mean. I can't think of a shot where he's in Union Square (like the one I included from THE BIRDS). At what point in the film does that happen?
@juliettec8358 Жыл бұрын
Hi, love your great Vertigo Tour! The gorgeous night shot of Union Square appears at 1:08:30, after Scottie leaves Midge’s apartment (portrait scene : 'It’s not funny, Midge!) and before Madeleine’s come back to tell him her 'dream'…

The alley shown next to the former flower shop location is incorrect. It’s actually Claude Lane and is still fully accessible to foot and vehicle traffic. It looks almost identical to the way it did on filming day. I just walked it again yesterday.
@MichaelDJ68 Жыл бұрын
I believe I explained that as I did not show the other alley used as a replacement from the one beside the flower shop.
@JT-rx1eo4 ай бұрын
@MichaelDJ68 Yes but it was a bit confusing. The actual flowershop alley is now gated. But the alley they actually USED and drove into in the movie is another alley and it's still open today. So in the movie they actually turned into the actual flowershop alley but then when the camera actually reframed into the alley they drove down, it was a different alley altogether. I think I got that right.

Like the video overall, but if this building at 1:37 that was once Ernie's restaurant was never used in the film, either the interior or the exterior, why bother showing it? It's like other videos showing the exterior of an apartment building in Greenwich Village in Manhattan that was shown for a few seconds countless times in the Friends series but never actually used, all the scenes in the series were filmed in LA studios.
@MichaelDJ683 ай бұрын
Why bother showing Ernies? Because it was a real place anyone could go to, even though they had to recreate it at the studio for the film. Why not show it? It's all about what it looks like now.
@georgehenderson77833 ай бұрын
Understood. The Brockbank apartments building which still looks virtually the same and Fort Point with the view of the Golden Gate Bridge which is also virtually the same except for the fence are my favorites. 👍 So many iconic movies and TV shows filmed in this city, it pains me to see what has happened to it over the past decade.😖

8:31 NO TRESPASSING Punishable of up to a year in jail and or $10,000.00 dollar fine" But stealing up to $999 of stuff from stores is fine these days in SF.
