Talk about two AWESOME cars! The A12 brings a lot of great parts to the Super Bee, and what can I say about the AMC SC/Rambler..... 'MURICA!!!!!!! Honestly, that AMC is one of my favorite cars at the Pure Stocks! What a great deal back in 1969.

The best part about the S/C Rambler, the Rebel Machine, and the Javelin Trans Am is that you can burn rubber and make Liberals cry with the patriotic paint scheme all at the same time. All the Liberal tears will keep the street wet so you can do even nicer burnouts👍👍

I remember being thirteen back in the summer of 1970. I was riding my Montgomery Ward Hawthorn (a poor kids Schwinn Stingray) and spying a `69 SC/Rambler in the back parking lot of the Green Mountain Inn, Stowe Vermont. I spent the entire afternoon mesmerized by it. I'm not exaggerating. For the entire afternoon I wanted to be nowhere else. The colours. That hood scoop. Been with me all these years. I had a 70 Rebel Machine with group 19 options. 5.00 rear end, removable wheelie bars. The 390 was pushing 500 hp and no heater or interior.I paid 1200 for it in 91 I wish I knew what I had. It wasn't the RWB paint.. it was just dark blue..I thought thought it was modded by the owner. Nope...AMC did it. It would do low 10/high 9's and do insane wheelies. I sold it in 93 for 2 grand. The body was RUSTY. The body was bent from racing. The dude I sold it to,got over 50 grand for it in 2007. It's now 6 figures, rusted out and original. AMC wasn't in the game very long...but they made cars that could destroy the big blocks. ❤️ And somehow it had a title...I guess it wasn't street legal. 😂😂😂

As a former owner of a "B" scheme SC/Rambler, I can say they were a blast to drive. With the small 14 inch tires they were a handful through 2 and sometimes 3 gears. Mine would still spin on the hard shift to 4th gear. Handling was decent for cars of that era, but nothing like today. The real strength of these cars was the massive amount of torque for a compact car. Just cruising in 4th gear at 60mph and stomping the throttle would set you back in the seat, and sometimes still get the rear wheels to turn over (chirp). Mine was pure stock / all original except for tires, just a freshened engine, and ran a best of 13.49 @ 101.3 on the track. I currently own a 69 AMX that has been set up for drag racing, that I have now owned for over 30 years. My brother had a Rebel Machine when I had my Scrambler and we only ran each other 1 time, I won and he wouldn't race again, you know how little brothers are..LOL. We sure loved our AMC's, but that was long ago...

In one more year AMC had the "dogleg" 1970 heads as standard. Good for 25 more HP with no other upgrades. I helped friends make that swap several times. Different head bolt size and intake manifold needs a few bolt-hole changes. Also a swap to 1970 exhaust manifolds out of a wrecking yard - but that's all easy to accommodate in one day under the shade tree.

Those hemi roadrunners and GTX’s ruled the drag strips in the late 60’s early 70’s like the Hellcat did recently it was the big dog as fast as any thing built back then. My father had the 440 supercommando in his but he had slicks and a larger rear end for drag racing so he ran 11.11 126mph was his fastest time at Detroit drag way normally he ran low 12’s. Dad would race the hemi’s and barely beat them in the 1/4 mile then as soon as they passed the 1/4 the hemis would just walk away with there big too end power. But for drag racing the torque is hard to beat.

Do any of you remember the Engine Bearing scare that 360, 390 401 suffered from? Well their engineering was tunning out of business so Chrysler engineering did some of their work. I happened to work in the Chrysler engine lab and worked on this problem (vary odd main bearing wipe). We improved the block webbing and the crank mounting was perfect. Then we realized the bearings were delivered defective, not a block problem in 69 70. We also did a 401. Cid police car Ambassador . It could run with a Monaco police car but it just stopped badly and AMC WAS about done and couldn't afford improvement. Good old days.

Love just about all 60s muscle cars. The AMC's don't get much love but the 390 and 401 were pretty impressive engines with forged cranks and connecting rods. I had a AMC 360 in a CJ 5 with just an Edlebrock Performer "kit" manifold, carb and cam all made to work well with each other and it was a torque beast in the little Jeep.

This is another example of why power to weight ratio is so important. The Rambler's 390 if stock, is basically a run of the mill 10.25 compression engine with small block heads. If it had factory performance modifications on the level ot the six pack 440, the A12 Super Bee would have gone home with it's tail between it's legs. 😁

@@rodneychapman1506 The Gen2 AMC V8 wasn't really a small block, I guess you could call it a medium block. They used the wider bore spacing of their Gen1 engine to save money on the the machining process, this resulted in a slightly longer block compared to the other manufacturers small blocks. The AMC block design also featured a taller deck height supporting a displacement range between 290 and 401 cubic inches. The cylinder heads are very similar to the small block Chevy in both port and valve size so they basically stretched small block heads and made them fit a larger block.
