Yes and I don't know why..... The 70 ( start of 2nd gen ) was a way better running car. The Z28 with the LT1 350 H.O. was quicker 0-60 than the 69 SS with the 396. Most do not realize that and have turned the 69 into a sort of " mythical beast " of a car that it simply doesn't live up to. The 1970 also handled better and had a rear stabilizer bar unlike the 69. The 67-69 Z28 with the short lived Chevy 302 was a quick little car and out performed the SS at 0-60 as well. The much cheaper 69/70 Nova SS would outrun the Camaro as well. Ford's little 65 Mustang GT coupe with a 289 HiPo was a better road track car than the 69 SS as well and it isn't a muscle car and had less than 300hp.

Can any of the ZL1 experts tell me if because of the alum block, you can hear more of the internal noses than can be heard from a cast iron block? Reason I ask is because I recently bought one of these (mines a clone but it has the all alum ZL1 427 winters block, heads & intake) and it seems like I can hear rod or crank type of noises that I don't hear from my other cast iron block 427's. Anyone notice this, can more noise be heard because of the alum block or should I open the motor up and check clearances and what not?

Plenty of all aluminum V8 motors out there and they are quiet. If the small ends of the rods were bushed that could be a source for noise. And if it has solid lifters they could be too loose, etc. And it just may be time for a used performance car tear down.
