Fantastic to see the Chevelle on the road. You folks did some good work on that car. Sounds great, she seemed to be one with the road. I’m jealous seeing you to wrench an old Chevelle back to working. My favorite SS is a 66. My dream car.I’m proud of you all with your success. Please keep it up, she is worth every dollar you put in her buddy. Tell your dad to smile once in a while, it won’t hurt!! It’ll make him look happy with the progress you’ve made. Stick to it guys. Big Al. That’ll be one bad ride!!!

4* initial timing is to pass emissions and is not for performance. Total advance should be between 36-38* degrees and that would put your initial between 14-16*. Glad to see it back on the road. I had 1 Chevelle with a 283 2 bbl in it. It was a 1964 which I bought in 1973 and drove to HS and College. In ‘74 I bought a 68 Beaumont with a 327 4 bbl. In ‘75 was when I got into Z/28’s. Bought a 68 Z/28 in ‘75 and drove it to College. After that I bought a 71 Z/28, then in 77 I bought a new 77 Z/28, in 78 I bought a new 78 Z/28 then in 80 bought a new 80 Z/28. In ‘81 I bought a 70 Z/28 and still own it. All my Z’s were 4 speeds. I also owned a 87 Buick Grand Nat’l and sold it after owning it for 22 yrs.

Love the height of the rear, that look used to be achieved in cheap ways back in the day by just using airshocks or putting some 2x4 blocks between the coils of the rear springs. It just had to be up there.

Nice video! I’m restoring a 71 Chevelle. I had the same problem with my motor mounts. I found out that they did come with two different engine towers. Short and Wide was one - the tall and skinny was the other. I actually ordered the tall and skinny mounts from energy suspension, but ended up sending them back for the short and wide ones. They both come up under Chevelle. Awesome to see this car running again! Great video!
@4LaneBlacktop

Yeah we found that out. One was really for a big block and one for a small block but they would work on both engines as long as you had the matching frame mounts.

@4LaneBlacktop
@4LaneBlacktop 3 жыл бұрын
What you hear is an exhaust leak. I know it sounds like a knock but that is just how the camera audio is. We physically shook all the rods when the pan was off and the oil pressure has always been above spec.
@rwandersonut
@rwandersonut 3 жыл бұрын
@@4LaneBlacktop I understand what you are saying, however, rod an main bearing tolerances are measured in a few thousandths of an inch and you may not pick up on it by "shaking them". What I heard went away once you adjusted the timing and rebuilt the carb. Don't get me wrong hear, I am very envious of this car. The thought of it sitting there even one more day not being enjoyed brings me great pain. I am 53 years old and would give anything to have a car like that in my back yard. (It would probably be in the living room though). This is a real survivor and I doubt you could put a monetary value on it. Halfheartedly, I wish you luck with it, all the while wishing it were mine. Also, the scaring inside the oil pan could be a real problem, I would have replaced it and bought a new pump just to make sure this would not be a problem in the future. Then again, I would have taken the whole thing apart and lovingly restored every nut and bolt. Seriously though, I hope that you get years of enjoyment from that very special car.
@4LaneBlacktop
@4LaneBlacktop 3 жыл бұрын
