This morning I saw a Facebook post of the Walter Cronkite news piece that JFK had been shot and had died. Some 61 one years ago when I was almost 11. I remember the exact place I was; coming in from recess on a sunny morning in Seattle. This song came to mind and I had the album and went to The Youngbloods concert in 1969 during the time of protests for the Viet Nam War and the Kent State Massacre. Tough time to be a teen, but I was forever wakened to the violence of my species. Peace & Love always be in the forefront of our living and dying and "Come on people, love one another right now" more than ever.

I remember the PSA which featured the tune. It was a favorite of my Dad who was a Baptist minister. Composed by Chet Powers a/k/a Dino Valenti of Quicksilver Messenger Service.

I first heard the song when I was in Canada & got some leftover 45s in a 10-pack - This one was credited to Dino Valenti as the writer and was done by The Young Canadians on a Capitol of Canada 45 (about 1966).

This was by far the most successful version of Chet Powers' (aka Dino Valenti) mellow hippie folk-rock classic, and Valenti even altered his own way of performing the song to incorporate more of the Youngbloods' arrangement. We Five (of "You Were on My Mind" fame) had a #31 national hit with this song (as "Let's Get Together") in late 1965.

Yeah, I noticed that the Beatles had already used the same pattern in "Anna," which was a slight variation on the pattern used in the Arthur Alexander version. Probably existed earlier than that, though I can't think of any more examples off the top of my head.

I have the 47-9264 ish', on the "black label, dog on side." Four sets were initially cut - 1S to Rockaway, NJ, 2S to Hollywood, CA, and 3S and 4S to Indianapolis. 5S was the earliest set for the 1969 reish.
