Sure there is, they’re called turbos and superchargers. There’s 4 cylinder Hondas driving around these days that would put all these muscle cars to shame on a drag strip. Old v8s just sound better 👍

Correct, 1969 model year, with VIN for the win: 9 for 1969 model year, T for Metuchen, NJ assembly, 02 for Mustang fastback, R for 428 CID V8 with four-barrel, ram air induction, Cobra Jet, aka "Never Since Mr. Ed Has a Horse Spoken This Clearly", and the rest is the production sequence. The Metuchen NJ plant was also called Edison Assembly and closed in 2004. What many may or may not know is that Ford used the Q-Jet on some 429 CID V8 (although this is a 428 CID V8) engines, proving how good of a carburetor it really is. All Big 3 car companies (and others) used it. We got the tag, we can brag: 63C for Mustang Mach 1 Fastback, B(5) for Maroon exterior paint, 3A for Black interior trim, 06C for Thursday March 6, 1969 production, 22 for Charlotte, NC sales district, W for 4.30:1 rear axle ratio, locking, and 6 for four speed manual transmission, close ratio, with 2.32 first gear. Yup, when you have the Marti (report), you can have a party. The Marti Report is the gold standard of Ford certification just like the Pontiac Historical Services report from Pontiac. All Ford vehicles should have it to show provenance. English Motor Company is possibly Crescent Ford at that same location as shown on the Marti Report.

Beautiful car! clarification - sport slats and spoilers were not optional for the Mach I in 1969, only the Boss 302. Customer could order them over the counter and have the dealer install them as many people did. Super Track Pack is more of a MOPAR term, I think Steve meant Drag Pack. Love those old magazines!

Thanks Steve! Excellent video featuring an exceptional car built for business! Lately I’ve watched a number of AI-generated videos that call just about everything from the 60s and 70s a muscle car. I’ve tried to be pretty consistent with my comments regarding the proper definition of a muscle car vs pony car vs full sized car vs grocery getting station wagon with a boat towing big block. That definition from reading articles in practically every car mag in the 80s and early 90s that included authors such as “Steve Mags.” But I appreciate how you point out that a car such as the featured street warrior survivor could “potentially” be a muscle car. I’d rather listen you than engage in pointless debates with AI. Anyway, I wish you a Happy Thanks Giving and continued recovery.

Loved the presentation of this car, probably because i own one that is exactly like it except for the color and have for 55 years. Yep an original owner here. Plan on having it driven right behind the hearse on the way to the cemetery.

Am I right, that no Mustangs came stock with a wood grain three spoke drilled steel steering wheel? Wasn't the stock steering wheel all paded vinyl? I believe there was a three spoke wheel steering wheel, but it did not have the drilled holes in the spokes?

I have a 69 Mach 1 SCode that I purchased in 2019 from the original owner who was a female and in 1968 she ordered it with a four speed and non power steering. AM/FM, fold down rear seat and tach with power disc brakes black jade. The dealer was her local dealer which was Hayward Ford in Hayward CA.

A truck engine in a medium sized car. They steer like a supermarket trolley. I have driven a 68 390 [and the tall deck 428 is even heavier] a few times and it simply does NOT handle. Even a Cleveland is too heavy for those cars. My favourite looking Mustang but I would never want a big block. A friend has a 7 litre [4 speed] 66 Galaxie 428 and that is better as the car is big enough to carry the lump. Still a very heavy engine though. I have driven a 302 66 Galaxie and it pointed better but the engine struggled dragging around the weight. Those Badday tyres are useless. No grip and square shoulder make those cars drive like crap. Put some decent radials on it which notwithstanding all the weight will transform the car. 4 30 gears??With a truck engine? Makes no sense at all. Even for drag racing the power of those things stock would be faster with 3.25 or 3 50 [3.55]on the drag strip. Normal use 3.00 or taller would have it more economical and far quieter.
