Endlich! Großes Lob, dass jemand dieses Zeitzeugnis noch "auf Lager" hatte. Unvergessen "Stan" Libuda und sein grandioses Tor. Leider wird dieses Tor allzuoft bei irgendwelchen Statistiken der großen Sendeanstalten in geradezu ignoranten Regekmäßigkeit vergessen. In diesem Video wird das Wort deutlich: "An Libuda kommt wirklich keiner vorbei." Danke für das Video.

As mentioned by a previous commenter Muller's goal should have been disallowed for a blatant push on the defender. I've watched a full recording of this game and Scotland hit the bar twice and were unlucky to lose to such a strong German team. If they'd got something here they may well have qualified for World Cup 70 ahead of Germany, so it could have been Scotland facing England in that famous quarter-final in Leon.

Scotland should have had a draw here and Muller should have been booked for knocking down McNeil at 1:30 which freed Muller of his marker to score the second German goal!

I can see the defender falling. But I cannot see a hard push as a reason for that fall. Besides, almost every attacker from those old days comments that they were usually fouled mercilessly without the referees punishing the markers or really protecting the attackers; it was just considered justified toughness. In the repeated match of Borussia Mönchengladbach vs. Inter Milano in 1971 the German players were constantly fouled long before they could even reach the box - and even the unnerving repetitions of such unfair practice of destroying the opponent´s playing could not make the referee book or send off a single Italian player. Having to watch this blatant injustice was a punishment.

With this win W. Germany not only beat Scotland for the first time in its history, but also qualifies for the 1970 World Cup hosted by Mexico. Looking back at the game, it's surprising how much trouble the Scots gave the Germans in the qualifiers. Scotland went on to lose to Austria 0-2 in their last, meaningless, game.
