I worked at a Buick/Oldsmobile dealership when I was 19. This was 1976. We had several older customers who were driving older Ninety Eight’s and Buick Electra’s. The local funeral home had a 1969 Ninety Eight hearse. I delivered it once after an oil change. I don’t think that it had 5,000 miles on the odometer.

One of the nice things about 98s was they served as test vehicles for features that would be added to Cadillac so you often got the upcoming features a year before came out on Caddy’s

Interesting that the AC is add-on, however, there appears to be dashboard vents for an original factory AC. By 1969 very few Oldsmobile Ninety-Eights would have been delivered without factory AC.

We have four 69 98s. Yep. A convertible, a Holiday Coupe, a Luxury Sedan and a Luxury hardtop. My uncle, a doctor, bought the convertible new for his 70th birthday gift to himself, we still have it. The car made such an impression on me, became obsessed with the 69 and 70 98s and acquired an example of each model offered over time. The only example we do not have is the Town Sedan. This 98 was advertised online several years ago. It's stunningly beautiful in this blue combination.

That car is incredible. Back when Oldsmobiles were excellent. Actually all g.m cars were excellent in 70. With the exception of a couple pontiacs that were kinda strange. Kinda looks like the car that my grandmother had. My first memory of life was standing in the front of it and i remember being eye level with that olds emblem in the middle. My grandmother s car may have been an 88 it was darker blue too but that light blue looks beautiful on that car. Fun fact 👉 some 455s in 70 had i believe e - code heads and were rated at 390 horse on 88s and 98s

Town Sedan was the base model, you could order it with options but the model made no sense and was not popular as the Holiday edition was not much more expensive and came standard with power windows and seats ect. The Luxury Sedan was the flagship with an amazing plush brocade and leather interior with thick carpets, a velour headliner, tons of interior red and white coach lamps and a folding rear tray with tissue dispensers. The Luxury Sedan interior was just as luxurious as any Cadillac, Lincoln or Imperial at the time.

Not my favorite Olds but its drivetrain can pull a house. It is also in the middle of the really powerful big block GM engines period of 68 - 70. It is also in a very impressive shape. A 55 year old car. Who saves these cars?
@christianbugatticg10 күн бұрын
Thanks! I seem to find nice ones from time to time.
The Town Sedan was seldom ordered with a vinyl top or any options, not a popular model but it sure looks beautiful. The Luxury Sedan was the ultimate 98, just as much luxury as a Cadillac, perhaps more. That mark along the roof is the factory weld, normal hidden by the optional vinyl top.

@paulparoma16 күн бұрын
@@HERBHOOVERS They got those great seats around '73 and kept them almost until the end. And power windows became standard around that time, I believe. That's why to me, all 98s before that were not quite there yet.

In your opinion, you think a 98 was not really a 98 until the 72 model year? That's ridiculous.
@user-ku1hc7zo9b14 күн бұрын
@@paulparomaPaul, the Regency was introduced in 72, yes it was the first luxury car anywhere to feature pillow velour interior which became very popular with other makes over the next few years but to think a 98 was not a 98 until 72 makes no sense as the 72 was basically a carry over from 71.
