I have a 72 bug and I so much prefer to drive it over a modern car, you just get pure joy driving these beautiful quirky cars, its the sound the design and for a 52 year old car its so comfortable to drive 😎😎

Such a beautiful car! Basically, anyone I speak to from the Baby Boomer generation had this as their first car. Now, you very rarely see one on the streets. There were still a lot of them around when I was young, in the 90s. Love from Germany!

Currently own two. At 68 y/o they're throw backs to my youth. Great little simple cars. I have a 67 and a 73 SB. 67 first year of 12 volt in USA. Yours looks great. Red brick interior with beige paint nice combo. Enjoy.

This model year I had, way back in 1972. It was of course used. My dad helped me to buy it from one of his work friends back in, I think, late March of '72. Mine was a dark green color with a roll-crank sun roof (which I enjoyed a lot) The car was fun to drive yet had one bad problem: oil consumption, big time. I was told by Clarence, who sold me the car, that VW had reconfigured the engine bore and stroke size, which started actually in 1968. I had unfortunately, the engine to blow on my way back home from church (which was some 25 miles away and traveled to and from mostly by Interstate). Clarence attempted to fix the car...took him a long time to finally get it to be satisfactory. One thing for sure...that "Bug" was fun to drive when I was 21! I'd do it again but, modify that car with a more powerful engine and several things. This one, reviewed...looks pretty good. I hope it gets several things fixed to mke it a real beauty.

After getting it running properly it is an absolute blast to drive. I wonder if the issue you described was what caused the original engine to fail even with good maintenance.

I have an inherited Diamond Blue 69 Beetle so I especially enjoyed your video. Mine is in very similar condition and have been slowly replacing rubber seals, window scrapers etc. Fun cars to own and drive for sure

Ive been a big fan of vw's for a long time and owned a 63 long ago and longer ago when I was 7 I rode in pops 57 type 2 pickup the model with the single cab rear bed feature. That was in 1959 when we'd shuttle down and cruise out on pops boat and catch yellowtail in mexico at the Coronado Islands 🏝 Anyway you own such a great car ❤ and I rode in 1 of those too in high school. Ive even drove the thing model too. 😁

My 17 year old daughter is looking at getting her first car. At first she wanted a classic vw bug. But after finding out that classic cas don’t have modern features we re focused on a 2nd gen bug from the 90s early 2000

Definitely could make an excellent first car if one is willing to forgo all the modern tech. Good luck with your 2nd gen, they’re fun cars when running properly.

One good advice, before turning the key for starting the motor! If the car was in 1 gear, or any else and you did not press the clutch… In winter even better to press the clutch to the metal, that disconnects the motor from the gearbox, that gives the starter less resistance and starts easier.
@nicholasgardner1106
@nicholasgardner1106 4 ай бұрын
Absolutely the case but sometimes a step I skip if I know it’s in neutral. In the hot Mississippi summer the added resistance of the transmission in neutral barely adds any effect for the starter to overcome.

Very first car I drove ( older brothers car back in the day). I ended up with one ( auto/ clutch). Fun to drive. Very simplistic car for basic transportation.

Simple, easily worked on, ultra reliable. What's not to like? I will never understand why only performance cars have an actual oil pressure gauge, by the time the oil pressure drops enough for the warning light to come on it's too late to prevent engine damage.
@nicholasgardner1106
@nicholasgardner1106 9 ай бұрын
Most cars that have a gauge are just a switch, either you have pressure or not. Ford loved to do that and it’s no better than the idiot light.

I had a 69 Westy van for awhile, seeing the gear shift pattern on the ashtray made my heart hurt. If you think the manual shift is hard to find on a bug, try first gear on a bus. I replaced all the bushings and every part I could find and you still had to fish for it. I miss that machine

I definitely thought there was legislation for it at some point but I still run into enough cars new and old without it that it was surprising to see on a car that age.

Does the A/C actually work decently? I have to imagine the compressor just drains any power, which was already minimal
@nicholasgardner1106
@nicholasgardner1106 4 ай бұрын
I have no idea if the AC works or not, the belts been off the entire time I’ve owned it. I’m sure it worked better than nothing down here in a Mississippi summer but probably not well compared to modern standards. Now that I’ve got it running properly I’ll give getting the air going a whirl in the spring. And being an r12 compressor that size I’d not be the least bit surprised if it sucked 10 or 15 horsepower.
@alexclement7221
@alexclement7221 25 күн бұрын
Being an R12 compressor, if you recharged it with R134, it would probably give you a feeble amount of cooling.
