8:02 My first "real" computer was a CoCo 2 and I discovered I really enjoyed programming. Because of that computer (which was sadly stolen from me) I embarked on a 30+ year in IT. I remember the CoCo very fondly. I also miss looking over the regular RS catalog and the TRS-80 computer catalogs also daydreaming about what kind of computer I wanted someday. Great memories!

I have so many Realistic and Concertape cassette tapes and they were all made by Radio Shack. I used to go to Radio Shack all the time and I missed the store.

I wouldn’t be where I am today had it not been for Radio Shack as a kid.

Wow, same here. Worked there during the mid 80’s which got me into computers and electronics. That led to a great career in IT Consulting and Cybersec sales.

4:39 I I still have a set of those except they are pioneer but they look identical to them. I also still have my sansui speakers and receiver. They don't make stuff like they used to for sure.

I remember the Radio Shack catalogs and the one free battery back in the 80s obviously as a kid back in those days the electronics back then were very impressive back in those days. unfortunately these electronics and toys are now obsolete and now probably useless the most compared to what we have today but obviously there are lessons to be learned from those days gone by that people no longer appreciate today.

0:00 Those 65-in-1 (or 20-in1 or 100-in-1) kits were a great invention, because anyone could use them, but if you had a little knowledge about electronics, they could help you build on it. And, unlike similar projects out of a book, these ones usually worked and could be taken down, then built again by someone else. If I had a kid, I'd seek out one of these kits, new or used, because the knowledge they convey is still relevant today.

I still have nightmares about the TRS-80 computer with its tiny screen and dual-disk drive. I learned to type on the thing and still wake up screaming whenever “scripsit” appears in the dream. My middle school in 1990 had a computer lab full of them, which I find kind of sad as my elementary school had been using Apple II’s in their classrooms 4 years earlier. I may be a filthy, godless atheist, but I still try to be the best Christian I can be, because I know that in Hell, there is a Radio Shack on every corner.
