That is soo cool, same one I had with the silver and red tank (same dents Lol). I got it as a 5 year old kid and rode it all over town back in the 70's. So perfect for a starter bike, not fast and can take a beating. I thought I was the next Evil Knievel and that thing was such a little tank. Hearing it run brings back some great memories. Major props for Dougs restorations, awesome video!!!

Fun to watch a bunch of older guys doing some wrenching. I've currently got a 1971 CT 70H that is all about reminding me of my youth; these bikes are forever cool. In 1971 I had a blue 1970 CT 70, and at age 61 I'm still as fond of these things as I was at age 13. Looking forward to the next few vids seeing your bike get completed. Tell those guys to keep up the great work. That's the kind of work that keeps you young.

I know!! I forgot to mention it in the video, but Doug is part of the VJMC (Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club), he and some other club members got those at an auction a few years ago. That was an awesome score! Not gonna be a complete nut and bolt how-to rebuild series..but hopefully I capture enough coherent material to make some videos lol. I'll be right in the middle of cranking down on a part and remember...crap...gotta grab the camera lol.

I am restoring 69 z50 that has been in storage for 40 years. I purchased a wiring harness but there is a black female plug that is on the harness between the stator plug and the ignition plug that I cannot figure out what it is or where to connect it. Hope you can help. Maybe a video on connecting a harness. I worry about the grounds too, don't want to make any mistakes. Thanks PS: Would you sell me one of the hubs ? My parts supplier is out of stock. I use CHP for parts. I would send you a check and trust you to ship when the check clears. What ever works for you.

Rex Holloway hey man I just recently purchased mine from the original owner that came with the original owners manual I just checked it and that female goes to the ignition coil! The ignition coil is also grounded to the frame vie mounting bolts! Don’t know if I’m too late hope this helps!

I have a 70 Z50, can’t get spark. No ignition key needed. Replaced condenser and points, coil . Run switch is new . What am I missing

Oh I'm really bad at electrical LOL. Have you looked at making sure your timing is right for the points to open and close properly. Needs to be for "spark" to happen at the right time. New plug, plug wire, plug cap? Thats about all I got

I have replaced those items. Set the points @ .016 (T), using my voltmeter all of my wires have good continuity, except for the spark plug. Is it possible to have received a bad coil (yes) but how often does that happen. Besides I show power (good continuity) on the wire that’s tied into the harness from the coil

I just use highest octane pump fuel (unleaded), which currently is 91.

What does Doug think of the after market cylinders and his thoughts of increasing the cc size.

I think he has bought aftermarket cylinders before and had no issues using them. Don't know about the larger CC size, they usually are all about getting the bikes back to original operating spec.
