The 69, 70 XLs, and the 71 LTD 2DR had the horseshoe shifter. I miss that. I found a 76 Elite front sway bar and put it under my 71 LTD. Corners much flatter. This Marauder could use one.

Crazy ‘bout a Mercury! This is one of my only, very few, fav Ford products. One of my farm boy friends had one, a 70, in about 1976. As a dedicated GM guy, at the time (1976 I had a 68 Skylark GS - they were just “used cars” back then!) this was one Ford I wasn’t ashamed to be seen in the passenger seat of! Peace

You got it brother. That was back in the days when the roads were filled with cars like this. And we all drove full sized vehicles like this. The Marquis was one of my favorites at the time! Lol Unlike you, I was just the opposite and was a "Ford man" through and through. (Ford meaning Mercury and Lincoln also of course) I pretty much stuck with Ford products, although I did have a Chevy pick up one time and I also had a 68 Chevy Chevelle for a while. 👍👍😉

Nice! Similar to my 1971 Chrysler 300 it’s not a Tire burnout monster. There best on the highway and freeways....that long wheel base makes for a very comfortable ride....and plenty of power for passing! It’s really........a.........Heavy Cruiser! Never to be built again. Hide away headlights just another touch of class! No pillar...so windows down give a nice view! Nice!
@1575murray3 жыл бұрын
The rear axle ratios in this and similar cars were deliberately chosen for highway cruising not drag racing. 2.45 or 2.76 were typical with the automatic transmission providing part throttle downshifts to give good passing performance. However even with the tall rear end gearing fuel economy wasn't very good with the 429 (I guess if you could afford to buy one you could afford the gas).
@WitchKing-Of-Angmar3 жыл бұрын
@@1575murray well, back in 1970 they didn't have plans to fuck' it up so thankfully yes it isn't built for drag racing aka limiting the amount of stock nice automobiles that are depleting each day. Not to mention the automobiles of the 1930's, by jove I wonder how little 1934 Ford's remain that are pristine.

What a beauty you've got there!! Just FYI: I'm probably the biggest fan out here, of the 1969-1972 Mercury Marquis/Marauder model line-up. I absolutely adore these vehicles! That being said, it's been a lot of years since I've owned one, and I'm getting the itch to go out and find one to purchase. And I expect to have to do aome clean-up, or even light resto work to it to get it where I want it to be. Mine doesn't need to be perfect, just decent, clean looking and a good driver. And I'll use it nearly as a daily driver again. So I don't need one nice enough to be in a museum!! Lol But that is a real beauty you've got. I've had 5 Marquis total, one of the 5 was a Marauder. (1970) I owned all if them back in the day, when we still saw them on the road! haha Yea, it's been a while. And the cars weren't that old at that time. (Relatively speaking) I owned all 5 if them between 1979 and about 1985. In 5 different colors!! (Yes, we used to have a nice wide selection if paint colors on cars in those days. Everything wasn't silver, black or gray back then like it seems to be today) I had one white one which was nice, with blue interior. A dark green one, with all dark green interior, (stunning), a dark brown with brown interior which was also very nice, (I think this brown one was the 72, because I think I remember that one having the high back "bucket" seats), and I also had one that was an ultra light pale blue color, with dark blue interior. (People used to always say the car was white! but it wasn't. It was a very very light blue) Anyhow, I've had both 2 doors and 4 door models. The two doors had those really long heavy doors! BUT, they were still extremely comfortable for tall adults in the back seat, plenty of leg room, and easy to get and out of, despite being a 2 door. And you can put 3 big people in back with ultra comfort. You can put 4 across the back seat in comfort as well. If you have a front bench seat, 3 can easily sit across it. So, 6 to 7 people comfortably. And be able to stretch out. GREAT vehicles. All of these came equipped with the large, big block V8, 429 cubic inch motor. They came with 2 barrel or 4 barrel carb options. (429-2V and 429-4V). BOTH if these engines were very powerful, providing more than enough power. Very high horsepower, and very high torque. A So, this 5000 pound vehicle WILL get up and really run when you put your foot in it, or, leave a burn out 100 feet long with am impressive "smoke show" of burning rubber if that's your thing. OR, load it up with 6 heavy people, and all the gear you can imagine you'd need, turn on and crank the A/C in the car, and then hook up your 8000 pound (or heavier) travel trailer to the back of it, and pull your camper over the steepest of mountain grades with EASE, and down the interstate like a dream come true, and NEVER be bogged down when doing so. And wave good-bye at all those newer pick up trucks you pass as they struggle pulling their camper up the same grade!! 👍😉 That 465 foot pounds of torque and 320-350 horsepower are a real treat at times like that. I pulled a 8900 pound camper all over the country with one of mine. Over the toughest mountain passes etc., and the ild girl never even broke a sweat. Lol But all that said, these are just great vehicles. Just as a daily driver, a large full sized sedan to put a large family in etc., and have class. Instead of some "mini-van" type vehicle. The only downside for many people is the fuel burn. These cars get 10 miles per gallon. A little less with your foot in it all the time. But otherwise, about 10mpg. If you're extremely light footed, you might squeak 12mpg out of it with cruise control on, on the interstate. But that's a maybe. So if you're concerned about gas mileage, this car is NOT for you. Holding roughly 24 gallons of gas, you're talking $125.00 to fill the tank. And you're gonna get about 230 miles out of that tank. So $125 to go 230 miles! Lol Of course back when I had mine, and we were paying 70 cents a gallon fir gas, I could fill the tank for $15 dollars. So 230 miles for 15 bucks was a different story. haha Anyhow, that's enough rambling on, sorry I couldn't help it!!! These are wonderful vehicles, that played a big part in my life many years ago, and that JUST seeing this brings back MANY fond memories for me. I'm unofficially on the "hunt" to find one, and I sure hope I can do just that in the near future. To hell with the price of gas, for me, it's well worth the expense of the fuel to drive such a beautiful car. THANKS FOR SHARING!! "J"

100% agree. I however had the lighter LTD with the 400-2V 260 horsepower and 400 foot pounds of torque. It was great and had the horseshoe shifter. 14mpg city 18 highway. people could squeeze into the back seat of this 2 DR easier than the Mark IV I had later. I never did tow anything though.

Sadly China wants to sell electric cars and lithium, all that combustion banning in the world is not about the environment, PRC dictates the end of use of all combustion cars worldwide. China told all politicians that they will stop business with underdeveloped countries that still allow CO2 emitting traffic aircrafts, ships or combustion based industry after 2030...I am sure USA and UK also will be forced by China into 100% electric traffic because today no industrialized country can afford sanctions by China.... China just rules the world...:-(

@@douglassmith1619 WOW. i didn't read that under your name before. so priests are not allowed to own anything by church rules. so, everything they buy is in the name of the church. even though they say a car doesn't belong to a priest, he is the only one allowed to drive it. so whatever priest bought it , he had some need for speed in his veins, especially to get it without a/c. i think this car was ordered. i doubt a dealer had an open end rear floor shifter with console, non a/c 429 x100 coupe sitting on the lot.
