1970 MGB GT, Collecting My Brothers New Car... Will It Run?

We go and collect my brothers new MGB GT sold as a non runner, and we try to diagnose why it wont start.

That's a fair looking GT, just hope it's not been filled and patched to death on the bottom half as that's where these really rot out. I prefer the GT to the roadster and for future reference when you need to get some paint for it the colour is officially called Black Tulip.

It’s a very pretty car I also prefer the GT, just looks great. it’s been welded before (iv had a good prod underneath) seems ok for now. Thanks for the paint name, I didn’t know that, very useful!

that was Brill i enjoy a good old car or engine fiddle , sounds quite well just a tweak here n there and jobs a good un 👍

A good tune up should sort it out, my concern is the underside, when you see things like "has had severe welding repairs to rear chassis rails" & "has had severe welding repairs to floors and inner sills" in the MOT history 🤨 These cars sadly suffer badly from rust, I had a 1975 BGT that had more filler than metal, finding a decent example is harder than you think.....

We did have a good look and prod underneath before going for it… fear not, the underside seems ok (definitely repaired) and iv played the rust game before!, the challenge will be keeping it solid.

Definitely worth stripping back the repaired areas to rectify or improve the previous repairs, underseal can hide some horrendous bodges, ask me how I know! All part of owning an old British Leyland car 🤣 @@badgerlodgegarage

Lovely condition i had a morris 1100 the same colour its called Black Tulip polishes up lovely and changes colour depending on daylight
