1970 Montesa Cota 247 VS 1985 Montesa Cota 330. Which is best?

The 247 was the one I had. Only bought it because it was cheap and I liked Kick Start on the TV.

I had a '70 and '72 247 and a '76 Rathmell 348. My '70 had a white frame, large diameter hubs and the older style tank/seat. The '72 had a silver frame, small hubs and also the older style tank/seat. Your '70 has the tank/seat I think came on the '73 in the U.S. My '72 was great. I tricked it out with all the Sammy Miller parts available and ran AHRMA with it for a couple of years. At one event it wouldn't start, broken ignition points, and a friend lent me his 348. Brilliant. Scored 1st place and had to have one. The 348 was a vast improvement over the 247, wish I still had it.

Great vid, you ride with the same attitude I do of packing in before you hurt yourself self, I only wish i'd judged it sooner from my last outing where I twisted my ankle riding my 248. Keep em coming as there isn't much Montesa content on KZbin.

Many riders seem to move the footrests down and back a touch on the 247s. You can probably make an alloy chain guard, following the original pattern. It sounds great.

The 330 has had that treatment. Hard to say what difference it made, as I never rode it before that, but it does lift the front wheel easier than the 247.

I have never come to terms with the rear brake on the left, so it would be the 330 for me

Are you sure the 330 isn't drinking oil from the clutch side o-ring?

330 sounded terrible. Overly rich? The 247 sounded much crisper.

Much more silencing than a 247, that's just how they sound unfortunately. The 247 has much more of a 70's bike sound to it.
