In this video I restore my grandfather's old Soviet vise. The vise is around 50 years old and even if it has not been used for a long time, it has quite little rust. This is not exactly the perfect prerequisite for a restoration, but the before and after result is very surprising.

Interestingly this vise was made with such metal quality that every piece disassembled completely perfect. Two thumbs up for old Soviet technology!

I see, you specialize in the restoration of Soviet technology :) On the side of the vise is an inscription of compliance of the product with state standard. The last two digits through the dash are the year the standard was adopted or the last change. There is the number 75, therefore, this vice could not be made before 1975. On the other side is a fixed price - 18 rubles 50 kopecks. Quite expensive at the time. The vice was in good condition, and steel in excellent condition. Well done job.

I wouldn't say a specialist, but I like the old Soviet charm. Thank you for the information, a viewer has already written this to me. I will change that shortly. Thanks a lot.

> "On the other side is a fixed price - 18 rubles 50 kopecks. Quite expensive at the time" - It is true, the average monthly salary of a Soviet worker was about 90-120 roubles in that times . And the official excange rate was 0,60 rouble per 1 USD
@АндрейНикитенко-ф4с
@АндрейНикитенко-ф4с 4 жыл бұрын
@@alexeyzuev4290 This is the salary of the seller or janitor or petty clerk. At a locksmith or a turner in a factory from 200 rubles, then my salary was 280 rubles a month. But it is difficult to compare with the present, a completely different cost structure. The rent for an average apartment, including all expenses, is 8 rubles per month. The fare within the city by tram is 3 kopecks, the flight by plane from Chelyabinsk to Riga is 12 rubles. But televisions and other radio equipment were very expensive.

Thanks for the historical trip, your informations was really interesting. It's nice to hear that there is more history behind such a vise than you think.
@Antonioivse
@Antonioivse 4 жыл бұрын
@@АндрейНикитенко-ф4с bad example. They don't know the distance between Riga and Chelyabinsk. They even don't know these cities are exists on the Earth. It is approx. 2700 km or 1677 miles. So, plane flight was cheaper than that vise. Flight ticket from Frunze city to Moscow (3700 km/2300 ml) was priced of 1 vise - 18 rubles or $10 (in 1975).

Nice work. This was in quite good condition still considering its age, but you made it look really good again. I probably would have done even less grinding on those scratches tbh, they give it character, show that it's seen some use.

Thank you for the video! Very interesting you get. But there is one caveat. On the body of this vice it is indicated that they are made in accordance with the standard adopted in 1975, this is indicated by the inscription on the body "ГОСТ 4046-75". The price of 18 rubles and 50 kopecks is indicated on the other side of the building; until 1991, there was state regulation of prices in the Soviet Union, that is, throughout the country (except for the Arctic regions, there was a special pricing process) the same product had the same value.

@@TheRestorationGuy In the Soviet, and now in the Russian standardization system (rus. ГОСТ - Государственный Стандарт, en. GOST - State Standard), the last two digits (if the standard was adopted in the 20th century) or four digits (when the standard was adopted in the 21st century) means the year this standard was adopted, and it is indicated after the hyphen . With respect to you and your work, Peter.
@boueng
@boueng 4 жыл бұрын
So if the product for one reason or another does not comply with the State Standard, for example, a new sausage recipe, or a tool made of lower quality steel, or a new device for which standardization does not yet exist, then the manufacturer indicates "ТУ - Технические Условия" - en. Technical Conditions, where TU has a long a numerical index by which to not determine the date of release of goods.

I forgot to say. This vice could only be made after 1975. Therefore, it would be more correct to indicate "the vice of the sample of 1975." With best regards!
