1970 was THE ABSOLUTE BEST YEAR FOR AMERICAN MUSCLE CARS. PERIOD. Not arguable, not debatable. Every muscle car was at the pinnacle of styling, handling (lol straight line 1/4 mile) horsepower, color, spoilers, racing stripes, exhausts etc. and value. Just picture all these 1970 cars...... LS6 70 chevelle, a gtx a challenger, a gto, a SS nova, all the yenkos, 70 camaros, firebirds, buick gsx all the hemis, 440 six packs, dual quads, 427 454 455, 429 boss mustangs, 428 cobra jet torinos and cyclones, 390 amxs and scrambler the list is endless. In my opinion, mopars were the best with the wildest colors and options, but we don't wanna start the Ford vs chevy vs plymouth argument. They were all awesome......but 70 was the peak

1970 really was a great year for the muscle car/pony car world. 1971 was a good year but the winds of change were starting to blow and within a couple of years the muscle/pony car world was on life support.

in 1969, after a big push by the Rockefellers, Nixon signed into law, the E.P.A. That is why 1970 was the peak of performance for Muscle Cars. The E.P.A. at that time had no sway over auto makers, that would come later, however, they could put a damper on the Fuel Octane, and best of all, Limit the building of any more refineries, 1976 was the last year a refinery was built in America, at one time, there where 26 different oil companies in American, with so much competition they could not control the price like today,. As a child of the 50's it was an every day common occurrence to have Oil companies conducting, Believe it or not, " GAS WAR ", This was posted in front of many stations across town, more importantly, 102 octane was very common, at the pump, There where actually 3 different grades of Gas, Premium, or Supreme, Ethyl, or Regular, the fuel today is so bad with this corn oil in it, I doubt the muscle cars of the 60 and 70 would run anywhere near peak performance, I know for fact the valve seats of the heads will not last with the gasoline of today with out Lead. Gas station used to give away dish's, silver ware, Green stamps, anyone else remember " Green Stamps " Blue Chip Stamps. I remember for 3 dollars I could Cruise my Dodge Dart all night, and still have enough gas to get to school next morning, and back.
@stripervince1
@stripervince1 7 жыл бұрын
Yup I remember all that. S&h green stamps, the sunoco station gas pump had the big dial on it, 87 89 91 93 95 99 and 102 octane. The cheapest I remember gas was .23 a gallon in 1963

My first car was a 70 Superbee. I still remember the VIN number. 383 4 speed. B5 blue with a light blue C stripe. Im 61 years old and I still miss that car. 15 inch steering wheel, manual steering and manual drum brakes. But when you figured out how it wanted to be driven, beautiful things happened. It taught me about snap oversteer the 2nd day I had it. That Saturday night a friend and I found a country road away from people and learned how to drive that bitch. I washed it every morning before school. I sell cars for a living and today I had 2 seventeen years olds come and look at a Shelby GT350 we have for sale. They reminded me of me. Except they were Ford guys. One had a 16 Mustang GT with a 6 speed and the other showed me pictures of his 2012 Shelby GT. I told them to hang on to those cars matter what else happened in their lives. The cars could never be replaced. They understood. All the car people I know are the same way. You're born with it, you live with it, you die with it. We don't pick this hobby, this hobby picks us.

Ah...brings back childhood memories of my uncle's 1968 GTX Plymouth (fancy Road Runner). He had to keep his foot hard on the brake pedal to keep it still at red lights. It just had the standard Commando 440 with one 4-barrel carburetor, but was plenty swift.

Sweet car. Some Mopar enthusiasts like the 727 A/T. Auto trans. not a bad option as the Mopar's manual was know to be a bit of a handful for some. But, what beats a 4 speed? Just "AM radio." Pretty sure few of the muscle cars back then had AM/FM, unless special order. Was a Senior in High School and not driving a new car. Dug all the muscle cars, big time. Still know the specs. on many that remain popular today. Right on, and ride on...Peace -V

Very cool you maintained the red stripes around the grill area... Most don't know this was correct. A lot of cars didn't have it, in their defense. A lot argue it was a 426 vs 440 vs 383 thing, but AFAIK it was just random...

Hey guys, easy on the negative comments. Again its not my car so i did not want to take it to its limits it before my customer got a chance. I really just wanted everyone to see a really cool car not critic my driving. Yes there are some mistakes in the video it is Go Green, and yes it is a AM only radio. It is a factory Go wing car so my customer did not cheap out on tire width to finance the wing. As far as me being a bow tie bozo ha ha ha that one was good. I love all you car guys we all have something in common. Have a great day guys!!!

why does everybody keep saying he's grinding gears and destroying the transmission? sure he's not the smoothest there is, but he's not doing anything that will hurt the transmission. I have done way worse things to transmissions without much harm. the worst damage I have ever brought to a transmission was a few metal shavings in an NV3500 because I was beating the shit out of it. bang shifting, 2nd gear clutch dumps. and once my clutch master got water in it from plowing through flooded streets at 40MPH during a monsoon, so I did grind some gears before I got that fixed. the transmission fluid was pretty metallic and there was some chunky bits on the magnet but it still shifts just fine without double clutching.
