Sorry about the history lesson folks but this racing is very close to me and i went to school with the Geogheans and Warwick farm was Accesable to all people and you didn,t need a weeks wages to get in and see the action. Although packed Vegemite sandwiches and a bottle of cordial helped cellebrate the day. I saw this actual race as a kid and never missed a race 1968 to 1974 including practice on saturday at Warwick Farm and still have the magazines. Warwick farm was the best and easy to get into the pits and watch the cars race around the causeway... the chargers were the loudest and i remember seing mainly all charger races where all the cars were E/38,s when they first came out. Great racing,, The Monaro like my 327Hk i had for 23 years and including the HT 350 really was a 1/2 baked Camaro,,it was pushed and marketed as a big banger, when the 327 in the HK was 1st model 250hp and later 275Hp,,,, where the hot 327 in the corvette of 1963 was 320Hp.Even the 350 HT has a basic low performance 350 engine stock where the Camaro in 1969 Had seriouse 350,s available. The Ford 351 GTHO Australian made high nickle engine was higher spec than the American equivelant. Especially the XY Clevaland that saw OUR 351 cleveland put into DE Tomaso Pantera Sports cars that killed it at Le Mans in their class. The Xy351 Cleveland around 340HP was unstoppable and all Holden had was the 300HP HG Monaro but elected to run 186 LC Toranas in racing. Essentially a Vauxhaul with a hot HR Holden engine and pommie carbies,,OMG.IFFFF the monaro had the LT1 350 chev with fuellie heads like the Ford 4v equivelant and a BIG muncie equel to the toploader the XW XY had and they were like boss mustang material the race would have been really on.Great cars AUSSIE made and still fantastic golden days racing and fantastic video.Caltex used to do the schools in the 1960,s with 16mm reel to reel tapes and put on Colour movies for the kids and i think we saw Bathurst 1967 in Full Colour and Sound that ran for 1 hour.

I loved your recollections mate. Sent me back to Lakeside on the North side of Brissie. I lived down the road at Strathpine and we'd often ride our pushbikes out or ride out with older mates that had cars. In those days people like Johnson, Moffat and others had to resort to marquees (we called them tents back then) with tarps on the ground because there were no true pits. They'd be on the inside of the track and to get back to the racetrack was a dirt road. Lakeside was an awesome track and was considered one of the most challenging of all tracks in the series. I saw a Mini make a mistake on Hungry corner, it rolled and the doors, bonnet and boot all separated from the car. Driver was okay but the Mini was a little bent. It must have rolled for near on a hundred metres. I used to go to the pits and pester Dick Johnson. He was racing the 2-doors Falcons at that time. It was around when Holden started being properly competitive with the A9X and L34s.

Pete Geoghean was a big guy but was regarded by a lot of people at the time as being one of the very best drivers in Australia. I would have loved to see him in an open wheeler. I am not sure if he ever drove one. If you put him in the field of a touring car today he would probably get penalised for driving infringements every race. He was really quick though.

Pete and his peers drove touring cars. The touring cars today are formulaic advertising hoardings, about as exciting as watching taxis in peak hour. If Pete drove today, the brats would turn him around out of jealousy, just like they did with Gardner...

The dickhead at Holden was looking for a name for their new two door sedan... he was driving past Canberra, going to Cooma on his way through, Eden Monaro... MONERO is how it's pronounced, he, being a Dickhead, pronounced it MONARO the way it's spelt... which is NOT how its' pronounced... Holden was run by dickheads... this is an example.

I love this vintage racing! So, the Alfa is running a straight six correct? So how much power is the Alfa down on the V8's? It looks like the V8's pull away a bit on the straights and then the Alfa makes it up in the corners...

This is the way Australia should have stayed, minding our own business and loved one another like true blue aussie. This was all stuffed when refugees came in and they didn't like this, didn't like that, making the true blue aussie change their ways of life because we had to dump many things we've enjoyed in the past and divert the attention to 'I don't like this, I dont like that', and since the mid to late 70s, goodbye to all the fun we've had, worry about how else we should make these multi nationals and mass migration happy. To this day, they're still not happy, and we now have given everything away so that we have now our souls to sell to keep them happy. Gone are the days of buddies and true blue Australian. Shhh, don't say anything or else they will complain about the noise.

@@dale7188 You don get it, mate. Minding our own business, as in - taking care of our own selves, our way of life, our culture, our religion, our children, families, etc., instead of worrying about problems with other countries, them and their wars that we had to send our sons to wars, e.g. Vietnam, because America says so, and then allow mass refugees into our country and cause population instability. That was then, when true refugees needed help, unlike now where all nations are here, refugees or not. If Aussies were intelligent, educated, wise, they would have also known that the word 'refugee' is and means taking refuge in a safe places until the dangers are over and it's safe for them to return back home. But, no. It turned out the other way around, they came here on free entry (of course, including free money provided) and stayed here for life. This of course mean that over the years more and more of them kept coming because those already here found a loophole in the Government, and not only that, they then also got an education and gradually infiltrated the Government in Canberra, eventually changing the laws in favour of their people (refugees) and the soft hearted politics then allowed it to happen and in the next 10 and more years boatloads of them were allowed on our shores, even when the war in Vietnam ended over 30 years ago. Non British/non Australian subjects should have not been allowed to enter the heart of this nation, the Federal Government, because if they do, they then become like cancer, spreading their ideas, e.g. changing the law in favour of refugees. The same with gays infiltrating the Canberra Government and look what happened? They persistently worked their ways to change the law and allow gay marriage, the most filthiest shit I have ever known. And if you though this was the only problem, the bleeding hearts made it worse. They went all along in the bandwagon of ignorance without objections. Camberra Government is doomed. But, in the refugees and illegals sense, because all this started since 1975, everything was in favour of refugees, false or illegal immigrants and trouble makers. Gone are the European imigration, gone are the British subjects, the Germans, Italians, americans, etc., and their great technology that helped this country to shape and prosper, Bosch, Stihl, Black & Decker, Repco, Dulux, to name a few, not to mention GMH, Ford, Chrysler, etc., in favour to Asians interests. And now there are more Asian nations than Australian of British origin on our soil. And that is not all, Blacks as well. It seems that every Aussie that is the son or daughter of those founders of this country have actually lost it. They are not too connected with our Aborigines but have to have Blacks from Africa. They no longer have any idea what they've done to themselves and their country given that manufacturers have also gone to China to produce al cheapo, yet there are hardly any jobs that require skills, expertise, modern technology, engineering and medical. Where are the jobs for you future children when this country is already overpopulated and hardly a job for white Aussies? Not only that but, nobody has ever thought about interracial proliferation and who our sons and daughters mix with, different race, religion, culture, ways of life, foods, etc., or marry and bring forth mixed wretches, something that shouldn't have been allowed to keep their races pure. But, most probably they are either under the drugs or brainwashed into believing that you can mix and breed with any other humans, regardless of who they are, Blacks, yellow skin, reddies, you can sleep even with dogs if you want to because there is no thought, nor consideration of the outcome, consequences, the shame, nah! WTF, NAH! At one time yes, Australians hated seeing their daughters marrying an Italian (don't worry, mate, I still remember those days when I had an Italian friend in the 60s. The girls back then used to call Italians Wogs because their parents said so.) Now, they can mix with whoever they like. And the cancer started to appear citywide, leaving little or no room for the Australian ethnicity, culture, ways of life, religion has been abandoned yet the stupid Aussie allowed others to build Mosques and introduce their religions in the country, including sharia. WTF, mate. Who runs this fucking country these days, eh? And this is the the reasons of the changes, your votes.

@Bro Spec WTF man? Is that all you can say? What drugs are you taking for not understanding what I was talking about? We had a great country. Maybe too much snorting of drugs has fried your brains to the point of turning them into fried omelette and developing mild cognitive impairment (MCI) which is the stage between the expected cognitive decline of normal aging and the more serious decline of dementia. It can involve problems with memory, language, thinking and judgment that are greater than normal age-related changes. Us this you? Or, you might have, without knowing, reached a more serious mental problem called Advanced Neuro-Cognitive Disorder (ANCD) which is a stage where your brain neurons no longer functions properly due to damaged connectors between one neuron and another, resulting in delayed response in thinking, thought, resolve, act and be able to reason in a way a normal person does. To say, "Have you forgot to take your meds", it goes to show that you can't think, can't notice and can't see how irrelevant your question is when you have no idea what I meant by my comment, even though you know nothing about me, who I am, what I do, etc.
