Great video. I've got a similar model, the PS T22 and they're good, solid and smart looking decks. Nice to see that maintenance looks fairly straightforward if I ever need to work on mine. Looking forward to your next video.

4:55 is a metal tongue for electric grounding. If you look at the inner surface of the bottom cover you removed, there is a metal film applied to be touched by that little tongue, as this turntable has this internal grounding solution, no external cable added to this model.

My parents bought this turntable and the rest of their setup second hand in the 80's, which I'm now the proud owner off. Not sure when it was cleaned or fixed up last, other than my dad and I fixing the speed on the 45rpm setting via the screws on the bottom. the end of the stylus has been changed at one point, as its JVC and not Sony. I'm currently looking in to getting a new needle and possibly a new pickup for it, as I know it hasn't been changed in minimum 15 years, but probably longer than that. I'll save your video for future reference for sure! I do wish to learn to take care of this system more so I can cintinue using it for many more years!

My brother has this TT now and it's been great. It needed a few more tweaks of those pots underneath to stabilise the speed too, maybe a common job 👍

I just got one yesterday same model like that for $35, everything seems working aside for it needs a new stylus or cartridge.. but I’m still thinking if it’s worth saving..coz I’m a newbie in terms of turntable but i really like how it looks and all the reviews are so impressive.

Awesome 👍🙂 I’ve got mine today and I love it too. I will also add another cartridge to it, however the Sony xl - 15 sounds great too, good preamp and amplifier also add a lot to the perfect sound, but the more your cartridge is sensitive the more the signal the amplifiers can bring you out of the original studio record of music. Good luck. 😊 What cartridge will you choose? There are sensible comparisons on youtube, I watched many.

I have one of these that was also bought by my dad in the 1980s. It has worked well other than the broken piece that holds the arm (which seems the norm!) and the lid not staying up, so I'll try your hinge adjustment. However, I recently started hearing records slowing down and then speeding up, so it looked like I needed a new belt. I've started looking for sources and was baffled to not find any. I then saw your video and apparently there is no belt! Excuse my ignorance but can you please confirm this? I'm baffled because I thought belts were the norm?
@pwrestoration5 ай бұрын
Yep no belt but I'll tell you exactly what your problem is. Underneath, there is a small plastic plate around 2cm x 8cm which is at the front/underside of the turntable. Remove this and there are some potentiometers, these are speed control. There is one for each speed. Give them a clean with contact cleaner or deoxit, give them a turn back and forth with a screwdriver. Next set your speed control knobs on the top of the unit to centre. Then have the turntable just hanging over the lip of a table or something, so you can access the pots from below while it is playing. Adjust them whilst the player is spinning, using the timing light as a guide to get the correct speed. Boom your turntable is now speed calibrated! Hope this makes sense.

@@pwrestoration Many thanks for your advice, I'll try to give that a try soon. I'm genuinely surprised by the lack of a belt, because the problem sounded like it could easily be an old, stretched belt, so I hoped that would be an easy fix!

So sorry to bug you. I found a piece of clear plastic just floating around in my Sony direct drive and I have no idea where to put it back but there is no power. Any chance I could send you a message? 😃
@pwrestoration2 ай бұрын
My email is in my profile but to be honest that plastic might be a red herring. First thing I would check is the main fuse next to the power supply. They don't always look popped but frequently are, you can't just use a standard fuse either. Gotta be like for like.

Hi i got a question i have a sony ps t2 it spins i calibrated it but when i wanted to play a vinyl the tone arm doesnt move the automatic return works everything seems to work except that tone arm not moving forward please if yall know how to fix it let me know
@pwrestoration3 ай бұрын
Probably dried grease, you'll have to take the bottom off and look at the mechanism. If you have a glass table that's the easiest way!

Yes two pots under the plastic little cover. One for each speed
