Just got this motor today on a 1963 14ft jon boat. Runs absolutely perfect. Pretty amazing for a 50 year old small engine

What a lovely video! Thanks very much indeed for sharing! I've just scored the very same for £50. She is really clean turns over. gear selector clicks into position no worries. She will push my twenty year old Zodiac CFR-350 Nice and bonny. I will of course fit a new impeller and change the lower gear box oil. I wait with eager anticipation.... Going to be excellent taking our 9 Year old grandson along our local canal's etc.

Nice rebuild👍 I just a nice ‘73 Jonson 9.5. Only problem is it when you throttle past halfway mark it pauses for couple seconds before kicking on? It also does that when throttle Down from high. Carburetor dirty or timing?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD14 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks. What may seem like a fuel issue could be ignition, and vice versa. You'll have to just go through both systems. You'll end up there anyway if you dont get lucky on the first guess! Thanks again & Stay tuned !

Thanks for the content! Question: Mine runs great with the cover off, but chokes with it on and shuts off. Is that normal? Recently rebuilt carb and used a slightly larger jet, is it running too rich for the cover or can I get more power by drilling larger air holes?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD14 жыл бұрын
Hey. No not normal. Its choking out on exhaust gases, no fresh air. There is a rubber donut type of gasket that will go bad allowing exhaust into the powerhead compartment, and or the exhaust to cylinder gasket is leaking. Numbers 87 & 39. I've seen people cut holes in the hood to allow fresh air but dosent always work. Hey 'this old outboard ' I have a 69 sportwin, I've got some questions I realize this videos five years, having trouble with it idling it was running fine put it in the garage for a couple weeks got it back out to sell it fired it up and it ran like garbage, went through reset the points, re cleaned the carburetor,runs decent at high rpms and mid range low speed,spits/sneezes, adjusted low speed to no avil,is the low speed needle supposed to be sharp on the end? Mine is very pointy/sparp, wrenched on this one more than any other outboard I've ever had! Last one of these I'll ever buy
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Actually this videos is closer to 15 years ago. I uploaded it 5 years ago. Anyway, yes the needle is pointed. Sounds like you've done just about everything. Spits/sneezes is usually a sign of running too lean, or out of sync. Mid & high is good but something is screwing up the idle circuit. Back when, I had 3 or 4 of these things and anytime I had a problem I ended up at Leeroys Ramblings. Don't know if you've heard of him, It's where I learned everything. Check it out the carb section, it may help. www.leeroysramblings.com/OMC_9.5.htm Thanks again & Stay tuned !
@jimm1975 Жыл бұрын
Yes I'm familiar with Leroy,so your saying the low speed needle is supposed to be sharp almost like a needle? I've reset points a few times, adjusted the cam timing yesterday but haven't had it back in the barrel yet,I'm stumped,worst outboard I've ever had/worked on!! Didn't realize the video was that old ,but you always seem to get er done,hate reaching out to people but ya know sometimes you have to, thanks again for your help, Jim

It may run ! There is a lot of info at leeroysramblings.com on theses motors, and I believe he said these motors will run as low as 60 psi. Everything you need to know is at leeroys. Check it out ! Thanks !

I have a question, I recently pulled the lower unit on a 1972 Evinrude 9.5 hp sportwin.. my situation is, the oring on top of the drive shaft stayed in the powerhead ... How do I get it out of the powerhead?? HELP PLEASE.. love your videos brother
@THISOLDOUTBOARD14 жыл бұрын
Hey. Thanks. I Hate when that happens. Try a wire coat hanger, straighten it out and bend the tip to fit up in there, then put the other end in a drill and spin it. Then get a new o-ring ! Dont forget to grease it up when you put it back in. Thanks again. Stay tuned !

LOL Then I came back an some whacked out Jamaican was talking. A little too early for smoking the Guanga. I know is medicinal!!! Hope my Bigtwin/Lark hybrid runs like that. Later -Ed
