Guy gave me this 9.9 so I’ll see what it needs and if it runs.

Thanks for the video. I'm a mechanic but it's always good to educate yourself in case of something surprising showing up.hi from a fishing finn 🇫🇮.

Had both, first a 9.9 hp and then a 25 hp. Chrysler. They were good, reliable engines that ran smooth from idle to full throttle. Chryslers were always a step ahead of all other manufacturers. That low sitting 9.9 hp stunned the industry and had OMC rush to get the 9.5 hp out as a stop gap model until OMC could bring out their 9.9- 15 hp in 1974. Brunswick (Mercury) did not respond to that brilliant idea and as usual, kept on offering not too reliable, overdesigned models built as cheap as they could. "If you can't beat them, "buy" them", which is what Brunswick did as Chrysler was forced to sell its very profitable marine division as part of the governemental bail out program for its faultering automotive activities in the 70's.

Huh. That was the second old Chrysler and I did manage to get them both going within parts so that says it all. I couldn’t agree more about the older mercury outboards. I have a love hate relationship with them lol. Thanks for watching Daniel. PS. I have a 1974 yamaha 15A that I’m going to try to get running in the next outboard video. You might like this one.

Chrysler Outboards are shocking! I love to show the haters my Chrysler videos with the speeds they obtain! My one OMC only buddy told me " your GPS isn't working right"! Lol 😅

@@ALVintageOutboards I recently acquired a Chrysler 20 HP what can I do to get the most out of it
@ALVintageOutboards5 ай бұрын
@masontaylor6543 the most speed? Just get the carburetor in the best condition possible and if it has points, get them cleaned up and set properly. Next I'd change out the gearlube

A good drill with a socket right on top of the flywheel will spin that motor that's how i start mine

I do a flywheel flip start 😊

Never had or saw one that worked long.

That's ridiculous. I've owned and operated Chrysler outboards since I was 13 years old. If they didn't run or last long, it was due to poor maintenance, old, dirty fuel or other neglect.

if you decide to part out I would be interested in buying some parts that I have been having trouble locating.
@thesmallengineguy6924 Жыл бұрын
I thought about parting it out but just sold it complete. Nice motor
@ALVintageOutboards9 ай бұрын
What parts are you needing? I have a decent stash in Michigan
@masontaylor65435 ай бұрын
Probably could have cleaned the carb just to rule that out of the equation on the hard start

You could’ve ohm’s out the points and coils to test spark. Also kill switch is n easy ohm test.
@thesmallengineguy6924 Жыл бұрын
That’s a good point. I have a 1975 ish Yamaha 15hp coming up that I’m guessing will likely need the points gone through. Thanks for watching

I bet the people who designed wheelie bins never envisaged they'd have a secondary purpose as inpromptu test stands for outboard motors --- lol

Lol. It’s my recycling yard waste bin. Found out it fits an outboard about 12 years ago. It’s been on double duty ever since.

What does the piece do between the prop and the horizontal plate on the rear of the bottom of the shaft? The large hole. Is that for the exhaust. I have the same motor, but that piece with the hole was banged on something before it was mine so it’s no longer symmetrical

I’m not really sure anymore. I sold the motor awhile ago so I can’t even go look. Sorry I’m no help.

They are excellent motors, with all due respect sir. I'm 57 years old and I've owned and operated Chrysler outboards, and still do, since age 13

I came into possession of a 1976 10 horse that looks just like your 9.9. I’ve proved my water pump is working, but I do not have any water coming out the dual ports in the back that tells me I’m getting flow. Does yours do that?
@bebeslife4519 Жыл бұрын
You need to make sure your engine is deep enough in the water if it’s in a bucket. Water level should be submerge the water pump. On a short shaft boat, it will be deep enough to reach the waterpump and water should come out. Motor must be deep in other words!

How in the hell do you adjust the coils on that
@ALVintageOutboards9 ай бұрын
It's a fixed position coil. No adjustment necessary
