What a beautiful vehicle. My dad always bought LTDS. We had a 1971 with a 400 but it was light green. We had some of us best vacation trips in the car. It was so comfortable and quiet during long trips and a famiky of 4 could toss all the luggage they ever needed in the trunk. Thank you !

Crazy that you pay a third (or more) of the average cost of the old cars for a new one, and then you get less. It's no wonder car sales are in decline.

I had a 1971 LTD convertible, red with black top and interior and a 351 Windsor. That car was awesome. An old WW 2 vet that I did work for couldn't get it started one day, solenoid went bad, fixed it for him and we became friends, when he died he left it to me in his will. True story.

Yeah it was back in the days when you could sit outside and have your cookout on just a regular roll round no fancy Frills grills or hop in the car with the family and drive down to the Dairy Queen and get an ice cream cone or sitting on your porch swing hung by chains outside of your house and gently glide back and forth have a tube radio sitting on the porch and listening to the ball game on the radio or some music yep definitely better times back then

I was a pup in those days growing up and then a teenager in the 80s but I can tell you it was definitely some cool times back then and the restaurants even had much cooler signs just like the cars were cooler Taco Bell for example their sign used to be a giant Sombrero hat that had scarf underneath of it made out of red and green Chaser lights and had natural gas-burning tiki torches can a lava pit out front before the government started making things energy conserving so then they did away with that and White Castle used to actually have waitresses dressed up like airplane stewardesses with white tops and blue bottoms it would bring your food out to your car so this is the 71 I would have been don't mind saying my age 7 years old then I missed the flower power area but I got to see some people walking around in the early seventies that were wearing the John Lennon sunglasses and wearing the leather fringe jackets it was pretty cool

My Daddy had one of these. I remember the day he brought it home. It was love at first sight ❤. It was a 4 door, with a navy vinyl top, a 351 Cleveland engine and it was a very light blue with a navy blue interior. I still remember the front tag holder on the driver side. My sister drove it to college and when she bought her first car, we went and got it. That is when I asked him to let me drive it to college. He kept it for me and I got it in 1984. When I finished college and got my first car, I brought it home and he sold it for $350. The guy took the engine out, rebuilt it and put it in another car. That was one tough car 💪🏾.

My very first car - almost identical - 71 LTD, 4 dr, 400, except white over dark green. Bought it in 1976 for $1100 - my own money from part-time jobs. I was so proud of that car. Drove it past 200,000 miles until it just quit. Stood there in a gas station parking lot with a $100 bill in my hand and watched it disappear on a salvage yard flatbed... at 20 or 21 years old, I was being a man about it, dependable old car finally breathed its last ... that’s all. Then, to my utter surprise, my throat got tight, my eyes welled up, a gasp caught short, my hand went reflexively to my mouth, and I just stood there and cried. I sobbed. That was my car. MY CAR. and it just disappeared past some trees, and now it’s gone. Needless to say, anytime I see one of these, it tugs a lot of strings, even after all that time. You’re a fortunate man - take good care of it; and thanks for sharing.

I enjoyed the video as it really showed just how nice this low mileage survivor really is. I've owned a '72 Galaxie 500 for 26 years, it's one of the nicest cars I've ever owned. @@bradparris99 So true. My brother's 71 had bucket seats. My Dad's 72 had a bench with a fold down arm rest (if I remember right). Those sort of kept the driver in the right spot.... but my custom 500 had slippery seats..... and yea, those sharp turns meant I had to hold on tight.

@@mr.j2776 For me, I just found it easier and safer to go ahead and buckle my lap and shoulder belts. When I got in the car, I would turn the ignition, push the cigarette lighter, buckle up both belts, light up a Winston 100s and drive off. That routine has lasted nearly 50 years. The seat belts have saved me a couple of times. The jury is still out on the Winston 100s. LOL 😆

Thank you for sharing.
@highvision5061
@highvision5061 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I noticed after looking at the video a second time, all the windows were wind up windows, no arm rests. I then figured this must have been a lower trim model. Why buy all that luxury and still have to wind the windows and no place to rest your arm properly? American car manufactures were so finicky about 'options' and options packages then and now.. Our company bought two Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited's for off road work, and one must be the absolute base model, as it has wind up windows with manual door locks, the rear gate can only be locked with the key, no way to unlock it from inside, no switch provided.. Yet it has push button start with the key fob needing to be inside the car, but the key fob is otherwise useless, i.e. no wireless locking or unlocking of the doors.. It has a base radio, no satellite radio option, when I thought all Chrysler products now include that.. All for 38k.. What?? We also found out you can't easily hike up the suspension by even one inch without using extensive third party options. While the Sahara and Rubicon are easy to add height to the suspension.. The places we go, we keep bottoming out, especially snow in mountains, where a F-250 or Dodge 2500 are no problem.. Whiteout even modifying the suspension on those vehicles too.. Plus the dealer added something called "market value" to hike up the price, as though these base model Jeeps are in demand. The only Jeeps I know of that are in demand are the new Jeep Gladiator.

A friend of my wife's family had a '71 LTD. She had just purchased 4 snow tires which were in the trunk. Was on her way home and had to stop for a school bus. She was rear ended by another vehicle at 60 mph. She had pretty bad whip lash and upper back injury but was able to walk away. The tires helped absorb some of the impact, of course, but the LTD did its job.

At first I presumed that was a white vinyl top, but then as I looked closer, I saw reflections in it. It's white painted metal! How unusual is that? Usually if the vinyl top option is deleted, the color of the top is the same as the rest of the car. I actually think I like this better, as you get the same benefit of a "two-tone" car, but without the rust bubbles and cancer under the vinyl.

my second car was a pea green on green 71 ltd, 400-2v, burned as much oil as gas... could run it out of oil, it would seize, let it cool off, drive it another mile, repeat till home...i'd throw it in neutral and floor it hoping to pop it, all it would do is bend pushrods... Dad wouldnt let me pull it out to put my 69 429 in it though :( paid 75 bucks for the car, 20 for a lower control arm, 50 for a lincoln front seat, buffed it with blue coral wax, star-brite vinyl brite(both were GREAT stuff)on the roof, and it looked mint...of course the frame was shot. drove it a year and a half till buying my first decent car, it was probably the cheapest car I ever owned... my God did it smoke though...the exhaust literally dripped oil, it had been overheated so bad the valvesprings were soft, you could push open with your thumb to pop pushrods out/hammer straight/put back...zero oil pressure, ran reliable as heck, even as i tried to kill it...

Beautiful automobile. Love the cove style front grill. I know exactly what the inside of that car smells like. My dad had same Ford, only in the wagon form...and it was green. Ha

The meaning of LTD is Lincoln Trimmed Down. The LTD Brougham gave the buyer a taste of what a Lincoln was like. But remember, "Lincoln, What a Luxury Car Should Be." And back in the day, so it was.

I actually prefer the style of the 69&70 they had that wrap around pod instraument panel for the driver that put the driver in a position of controll and importance
