My grandfather brought me with him to this race, when I was 12. This brought back wonderful memories of that time and this track.

Loved hearing Dave Marcis get a shout out. Those wingtips were wheeling a racecar all the way through 2001. His last race was the 2002 Daytona 500. Wendell Scott was amazing. That never give up attitude is inspiring.

If i remember this was the very 1st NASCAR race that was shown on TV flag-to-flag. Up until that point they'd usually have half hour or hour long timeslots that showed highlights from races but never the full race. It wasn't aired live though, i think it was a 2-hour timeslot on the day after the race was held.

You are correct sir. Big bill france told the drivers to make this race fit in air time available or they wouldn't make another race the rest of the season, NO matter how fast they were.

Because someone has to own the footage to upload it. People have not uploaded the races or they have been lost to time. 1977 races might exist on Betamax that someone taped if you are lucky.

Petty's spring setup is completely botched, wow. The front just leans every corner. That is unfortunate.

They actually set that car up to do that. Richard was the master of flat short tracks, the mopar actually had torsion bar front suspension (stock) which owned Martinsville speedway with that set up, it rolled the weight shift over on the right front on entry and to the right rear on exit. The problem was the long straight aways and tight corners at this track wasn't as effective as at long sweeping turns such as Martinsville speedway.

This is the kind of race NASCAR needs to look at for the 2021 schedule. Run 100 to 200 laps at Bristol, Martinsville, Bowman Gray, Hickory, etc. on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. Keep it to no more than 2 hours total TV time, from pre-race to checkered flag to keep the attention span deficit millenials tune in.

Keep dreaming, NASCAR is determined to destroy everything that made it what it was, i say was because year after year it's become almost unrecognizable and they totally ignore thier roots, the tracks you mentioned unfortunately if it were not for the locals keeping them going they would fade into history like North Wilksboro and Rockingham. I live 30 min from the Rock and it almost brings me to tears every time i drive by it. They've taken all the HP from the cars they have all these rediculous rules and stage racing and etc etc. This is coming from a life long fan and someone who used to race locally himself and it breaks my heart to say these things, i can't even find a driver to pull for anymore there all spoiled kids who are cold fish with no personality, it's too steril and the racing sucks since they took all the HP in 2016. But we can dream.

So you are the expert, and you think that "some old guys" statement is 100% incorrect based solely on your extensive research of one and ONLY ONE 100 mile race out of the hundreds and probably several thousands of Nascar races ran during the era the "some old guys" spoke of ?????
