"I dread it for the crowds, but I'm glad of it to get rid of my own mob..."
Bob Wellings speaks to women who live in the Highbury area of North London - the home of Arsenal Football Club - about the start of the new football season. Are the women looking forward to the return of football, or do they consider themselves to be 'football widows'?

I love these little clips. They give a wonderful snapshot of Britain over past 70ish years. These women all know their own minds and they're not afraid to speak up. Salt of the earth!

These are the kind of ladies i used to do knock down ginger on with my mates in the 70s as a nipper, we would run off with them shouting " You wait!! I'll tell your parents!!"

Could have used a few subtitles there, but an intriguing video overall! (I'm from the State of Georgia in the United States, so you would likely need a few subtitles for old videos of people from my neck of the woods, as well).

If I am not mistaken Arsenal won the league and cup double that season, emulating Spurs who did it 10 years previously. Thinking about it, I think that was the previous season 1970/71.

@@Cripalani I remember that game, I was there. One of the worst footballing experiences I can remember! Trying to protect our proud record of being the only club to have won the league and cup double in the 20th Century, and of all the clubs to loose it to bl**dy Arsenal!! Been done many times since then of course, and is no longer seen as a big achievement as more and more clubs tend to "buy" their success.
