Did you do any brake or suspension upgrades to help accommodate the added power?
@MrBriansAmazingWorld4 жыл бұрын
No. None are needed. The engine is only 30 lbs heavier than a stock engine so it handles the little weight perfectly. Just make sure your stock brakes are working correctly. This does have stock disc brakes up front.

@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you. Yes I did use the Kennedy Adapter plate.. Amazing product...Bolts right up to the VW tranny. The flywheel was from them too. It fits the Subaru crankshaft and uses a stock VW clutch and starter. I went with a 1700lb pressure plate and it works great. Good luck P.s. The key to getting it to run right has been a ton of grounding wires. Probably 10 of them.

@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Absolutely! The more ground wires I add the better it runs.... Every sensor reads resistance. If it isn't grounded it gets a false reading and reacts incorrectly. Especially on the intake boot for the throttle position sensor.. Hard to ground some of them. Good luck.

Mr. Brian's Amazing World YT auto experts like to show how to clean battery terminals, but never finish the job by checking/cleaning the opposite ends of the cables. In addition, older vehicles’ electrical systems develop resistance. I drove a Peugeot 505 for over 25 years in a humid climate. Bought thin files coated with sapphire or diamond dust. Went through every electrical connection I could find, filing tarnish-like oxidation from male and female ends, then spraying with silicone lube and packing them with silicone grease. Made a noticeable, zippier-feeling difference!

Turn that deck stay over so that it does not rip your shirt. Unbolt it at the decklid and rotate in 180 Degrees and then walk it over the guide and turn it up. It gives it actual stability when those fingers are locked in.
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Great snag! I actually had to turn the stay over so it would clear the radiator fan when closing the door. Good observation though.

That is great! A radiator on each side in the engine compartment? How did you plumb the two?
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. They are from a 97 Honda civic. It was rather easy to plumb, needed a cross pipe to connect the two radiators. I also used high pressure radiator caps on the radiators. I then added a filler neck with another radiator cap at the highest point. That made it easiest to bleed the system.
@robm75435 жыл бұрын
@@MrBriansAmazingWorld Thanks! Have you taken it an extended highway trip ? I was wondering if the electric fans on could keep up with the heat.
@TairnKA5 жыл бұрын
So, from the engine, coolant enters one radiator, exit's through the cross pipe into a second radiator and back to the engine. correct?
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Yes. Hardest part is bleeding the air out of the system.
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
I have and ended up getting 2 high capacity radiators. They hold twice the coolant. I have the fans set up to always run. Also get a Temperature gauge so you can keep an eye on things.
@TairnKA5 жыл бұрын
I was just thinking a Subaru is a front engine AWD drive-train that's being installed into a VW bus (engine in back) so how do you reverse the output to the axles so you don't have one forward gear and four in reverse (5sp trans-axle), is there a geared adapter to the trans-axle? ;-) Since seeing this conversion on various videos I've wondered how it would work on a Corvair?
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Luckily you don't have to. The engine spins the correct way when bolted up to a VW transmission. Simple metal plate that adapts the engine. Special flywheel fits Subaru engine uses a vw clutch and starter.
@TairnKA5 жыл бұрын
That makes it easy but now I'm even more curious how it would work in a Corvair (Corvair trans-axle)?
@kingbob20215 жыл бұрын
Are the petrol wasteful ?

Hello Mr Brian...Great job and great video I want to do the same with my 1970 VW Bus camper but I have a few questions? 1._ What exactly subaru engine you used? 2._ did you used the same computer for the 2001 subaru ? or do you had to buy a different computer and harness to make it run? and how much total money did you spend in this nice job? Thank you for share your video I hope I can do mine soon.
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
Hi Thank you! I used an ej22. I managed to get a 2001 Subaru Imprezza that was rusted out. I meticulously pulled the wiring harness while the engine was running so when it died I knew I needed that wire. I used the computer as well. Best part is I saved the OB2 diagnostic port and can plug into a computer and run diagnostics when needed. I probably have $2500 into the swap however I made my own engine mount and exhaust. I'll make another video soon showcasing the swap.

Pretty sweet with that Subi engine. I'm looking at a '76 in pretty nice condition. Runs and drives, but needs some oil cooler seals and maybe some front brakes. Only rust is some surface rust on the bumper! Do you think $4-5k would be a decent price?
@MrBriansAmazingWorld5 жыл бұрын
They always need some kind of seal. Price is all dependent on condition. In the North East they are all rusted and non existent so prices are high. Prices are only going to go up so its also an investment.
